Re: My 86 4x4 shor box
Na I just got the cover a little while back. I liked the ralleys a/t to they were 35x12.50s but I got a good deal on these rims and tires and my dad wanted the ralleys any way.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
I got the new fender on the 77 1 ton tonight since its only going to be a work truck I bought those cheap fenders and it took alot of work fitting and getting half way aligned right. I need to buy some new 1 ton emblems Didnt have any on it befor new fenders have holes dilled for them so im going to stick some 2500 emblems or 1500 emblems I got laying around on there for now.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
I know what you mean about those cheap fenders i helped my Dad put a set on his 73 4x4. Took us most of the day just trying to get the holes to line up. The tailgates are even worse.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
Nice rig. I agree with the older wheels, but all in all it sits pretty mean lookin.
I spent a good few hours at the new pull a part today. fresh inside the gate (not yet in the yard) was an 84 (guessing) gmc high sierra 4x4. straight body, some cancer spots in the usual spots behind the wheel wells, but over all a pretty straight looking truck. I talk to the guy there and he said they wont sell cars back to the public. he also told me that the guy who owned it was getting to old to drive and the kids didn't want to fix it. I guess it had some top end problems in the motor. but still I didn't think a short box 4 wheel drive should have gone to the pull apart. Anyway, he said it will be going in the yard next week. I will be going back.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
What is your lift specs? Love the look of the boggers on it, not my favorite wheels, but that size with your lift is perfect.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
One thing I find kinda-sorta-maybe wrong with yer plan - the spools. Spools are good for mudding, but driving on pavement will be a killer, literally - making tight turns (such as in parking lots) will kill either yer tires, or yer axle shafts. You can avoid that in the front by running the hubs and t-case unlocked unless you really need 4x4, but with the rear you're stuck. I would suggest a locker, or a limited slip with some extra clutches, but no spools for pavement driving.

Re: My 86 4x4 short box
rear spool may be okay then, but a front spool will kill the stub shafts U-joints - the solid Dana 44 may be stronger than the IFS later trucks got, but why push it?
