Backspacing assistance

We are going to put either a 4 or 6 inch spring lift on our 72 K-10. I am looking to order some wheels and tires for it and want to jump on the "Buy 2, get 2 free" offer on the Pro Comp forged wheels. We will go with an 18x9 wheel but really dont know what backspace to order. What have your experiences been? The available options are:

4.5inch
4.5 inch hub-centric (what does that mean?)
5.0 inch

What would work best with my setup? I really dont like wheels that stick out too far! Am I right by saying that 5.0 inch backspace would be better than the 4.5?
