Project: white knight 1967 step
Well here's my build thread for a 1967 short step I bought from spraybomb and his dad Lee out of the classifieds here . I had talked on and off with them for about 2 months and finnally went and got it . I made the 4 hour drive on wendsday the 23rd . I left @ 7:30 am and got there just in time for lunch . It had rained on me most of the way up , but luckily was pretty dry at there place . I loaded up and chated with these 2 for about an hour and a half . Everything was as described and these guys are just plain into cars and are good people . Anyway it's a 250/6 , 3 on the tree , one wheel peel base model . My plans for upgrades include , 6 lug power disc conversion , power steering , built 355 v8 , th 350 2200 stall , posi unit , 2 and 4 ( or something along those lines ) drop , and A/C intall . The 6 runs really good . I changed the oil , repaired the choke cable , and repaired some chaffed wires for lighting and heat blower already . it needs a door and a fender , but the rockers and cab corners are solid . Here are a few pictures . I'll try and keep them coming with updates , as i would like to drive this to the Houston area meet coming up .

Sweet ride. Are you going to keep the spare tire rear fender? I think those look pretty cool. Keep us updated. Nice to see another '67 short-step getting redone!

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Toomanytoys I like the look it has now , but unfortunately that is not an option . Im less than 2 miles from Galveston bay so that surface rust will turn into a real mess pretty quick . I've got to paint it .
Richard the spare will stay on the bed . My short term plans are to find a 5th ralley wheel and tires for it . This weeks project will be the 6 lug disc brake conversion . The brake are not working so this will be first on the list . I bought 1989 chevy spindle assembly and 1978 booster and master cylinder . I have the 3/4 ton lower arms and all new ball joints and tie rod ends for the swap . I will follow that up with a rear brake rebuild , and a manual proportioning valve for the rear brakes . I will have new tires put on the painted rims tommorow . I also have located 3 center caps and the tire guy says he has the 4th one . Also got the power steering box cleaned up tonight . The donor truck I got the control arms off of has the door and fender I need . Here is the brake stuff for the swap |

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
O.K. The power 6 lug disc brake conversion is done , so it has brakes now . I put a turbo muffler on it so my wife will let me run it . The 6 cylinder HEI conversion is done and I bought another carb off a board member as mine still has a stumble to it after the rebuild . I am doing body work right now , as it is sceduled to go to the body shop on friday for new gm pure white base / clear job . Fixed the gas gauge , Adjusted the shift linkage , removed old floor mat and vacuumed in the cowl . Looked like a birds nest in there . Pulled the old plywood bed floor out . Removed the windshield . Pulled the 71/72 front bumper off . Basically preping it for paint . I also found a front sway bar today . The motor will eventually ( it's at the machine shop ) be a .030 350 chevy . This is a roller cam 1 pc rear seal block . I have forged flat tops for it . The heads are a over the counter 1969/1970 double hump , these are the heads you would get if you ordered a performance package with your new Camaro back them they would have come in the trunk with intake , carb , and headers . They have never been installed and have assesery holes . I bought a comp hydraulic roller , it's 208/218 @ .050 and 495/.503 lift . Holley 600 , weiand dual plane intake , and HEI dist . I bought a van tilt from another member . Had a turbo 350 out of a 69 Camaro and a 2200 stall . A buddy of mine just bought a truck like ours and it had new headers on it ( he's going big block ) so I got those . I have all the parts , I just got to find time to assemble this thing . My wife has the camara with her at Disney in Orlando , so i'll get some progress pics up within the next couple of days as she gets home tonight . I drove a 1969 short fleet for about 4 years and wish I would have never sold it .

The spindles are 1989 7200# 6 lug 3/4 ton and use the same year tie rod end. The hood still needs some work . I bought a 78' Z-28 scoop for it to cover the dents in the center feature . I 'll post some pictures so you can get an idea of what im tring to do . |

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Well it's offically in paint prison . He quoted me a super price to replace the rocker , so i'm gonna let them do the metal work . I disassembled the truck and did 2 weeks of prep and block sanding . I also bought a used hood for it off of Craigslist . I'm still doing the Z-28 scoop on the other hood and having it painted . The interior will also be repainted factory blue with GM pure white base coat / clear coat . The core support and frame will be semi gloss black and the bumper , grill and headlight trim will match the wheels . The side mirrors will be painted body color with black mirror heads . It is supposed to be out friday the 29th so it'll be on the trailer for the Houston meet if they meet there own deadline . I'll try and get pictures of it in the various stages of paint .
