"What'd ya take fer that old truck?"

Had another offer to buy my truck today. Couldn't tell how serious he was. He wouldn't make the first offer. I think he wanted to knwo if I knew what is worth, and then planned to reply just enough lower so he knew I wouldn't take it.

That's 3 unsolicited offers in the last month. Makes me wonder how much interest it'd get if it wasn't full of bondo, had the right grille, and all the body gaps were properly aligned.

Yep, I keep getting asked if mine is for sale also. It always surprises me too. I may give them a reasonable price next time.

Re: "What'd ya take fer that old truck?"

It happens to me all the time too. Mine is not even very nice. I keep thinking to myself "you wouldn't make it one week with this truck" when people ask me to buy it. It has no AC, drinks gas even when stopped, It burns oil, leaks tranny fluid, the wipers suck the window whistles, it is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter and on and on and on. BUT, I love my truck and I wouldn't sell it for 10 times the market value. I always tell people it is an addiction and it would be cheaper and easier on your mental health to take up severe drinking or a crack habit.

Sounds familar, when my K20 arrived from the midwest, the local guys here loved it.
Didn't run at the time,(still doesn't) looked pretty ugly, had at least 4 or 5 serious offers for it almost as soon as I got it.

so, if us west coast people want to sell our trucks and make some money, I guess we need to ship them to the east coast and park them on a street corner with a for sale sign on them.

Re: "What'd ya take fer that old truck?"

I actually got a ton of offers when mine was a "beater" as well. I think people think they can get a good "deal" on your beater, or maybe you don't know what it's worth, or they're cheap.

I've only had two "offers" on my truck since it's been done (about a year and a half) one was a serious offer of 6K, but I don't want to sell it I think people see it now and are "afraid" to ask because they've seen the prices at Charlotte or they figure since I "fixed it up" I don't want to sell it.

Meh, I'm just rambling....

I just had a guy stop this afternoon and wanted to know where he could get a 71 or 72 2WD LWB truck. I told him I would sell him the '69 for 2 grand but he didn't think he needed the 454 to make trips to the landfill with. I told him that he could make it there and back real quick with that truck...... Other than that I have never had anyone stop and try to buy any of my vehicles (or other junk) from me and I live on a main road to a recreational lake.

DANG IT! Every time I have what I think is an original idea for a truck, I see a picture of one posted here that already did that.

I was thinking it may be neat to paint my truck white then stripe it to match my Triton bass boat.

haysonj: Nice truck and boat by the way.

Let me share a story about my truck/boat.

Soon after I bought the Triton I had it down on Lake Pepin (wide spot on the Mississippi where water skiing was invented). I was prepping it to get it wet and waiting for a pal who was going to practice with me for a tournament. Another bass boat/truck pulls up next to me to do the same.

The other guy gets out, we exchange plesantries, then starts shaking his head. He says,
"I don't understand how you can pull that boat with that truck".

I simply stated,
"That boat is depreciating in value. That truck is appreciating."

In an attempt to get back on the thread subject, I get asked "how much" all the time. Usually it is accompanied by a "my uncle had one" or "my grandpa had one" or "the neighbor when I was a kid had one"...

The only photo I have on this computer of my rig hooked to the boat has my buddy from France in it. He may have caught the largest largmouth ever caught by a Frenchman a few hours after that picutre.

Re: "What'd ya take fer that old truck?"

I don't think people realize how much money you can put into these trucks. I have 67 short fleetside that I seriously doubt I'd get what I got in it (over 12 grand and it still needs a few things). I have a 72 short fleetside that I've had parked for over 10 years. I was going to fix it up but got the 67 for less than it would of cost me to fix up the 72 to the same level (and I paid more than I thought I should for the 67 because I knew what $$ he had in it).

Now I'm wondering what to do with the 72? It just needs a motor & power steering pump (well after sitting that long I'm sure there's more). Trying to decide if I should throw a motor in there and sell or sell without. I think I'd make more profit with a running truck.

I actually think people may pay more for trucks on the west coast (California)... or it could just be me

Same guy always offers what he has in his pocket for mine. I won't price it to him because he could have 2k to 5k. Seen him pull 5k out before.

I park mine at work next to a road that gets some decent traffic and I have people on a regular basis ask about it. My boss is a Porsche 356 guy and can't understand it. It's just a crappy old truck to him.
