63 Chevy Project
These are pictures of my 63 truck project. Frame and suspension finished. Just finished test fitting the sheet metal. Now it needs to come back apart and start on the body work. The body is very solid and the cab and front end are rust free. I have a rust free fleetside bed, but decided to use the stepside. The hood is strapped because of 50 mph winds.

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Well, up here in Ohio we call that snow, and man do I hate it!
That's going to be one sweet ride when you're finished with it. Nice work. Hey were did you get the truck? Everything up here is rusty as hell. I went to Tenn. for mine. Tim |

Re: 63 Chevy Project
I am going to get rid of the grill and get a 63 grill. In the process of trying to find an alu one. The cab is from New Mexico. The front end is from the Mojave Desert and the bed is from Arkansas. You don't see too many stepsides restored anymore and that's what made me go with that bed. The truck is also lowered 2" and 4" with heavy duty disc brakes in the front and 2 3/4" brakes in the rear with a 3.73, 8.5 posi. The frame is also blasted and painted.

Great looking project, but ditch the stepper... and then drop that sucker to the ground.

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Is this the correct rear end for a 63? This is what I have on mine but there are no bolts to take the backing plate off to convert to disc brakes. Oh and that's my shop, years to get it but worth it.

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Yes unfortunately it is. They have press on backing plates and non self-adjusting brakes. I put a 1985 8.5 truck rearend under mine. Looks like a really nice shop!

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Thanks Ryan913. I guess I have to look for a different rear end since I already bought the four disc brake system from CPP. I have a 66 that does have the bolted backing plate. Maybe I will swap rear ends since I'm leaving the 66 with drums.

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Too bad you aren't closer to me because I would help you out with a newer rearend. Do not forget to change the panhard bars because they are also different.

That's a really nice looking stepside! It is really hard not to use my fleetside bed, but I lost the quarter toss and will honor it. lol

Re: 63 Chevy Project
Looks like a pretty good buy! Too bad the custom sails are for years 64-66. Why are you going with the fleetside bed?

Re: 63 Chevy Project
I like the fleet side better. I like the way they sit when lowered. I haven't forgot about the title and VIN. I have alot of extra parts and will probably sell the stuff I don't need or want. I still need to get everything organized so it will be awhile. Sorry to hear of your job loss.
