Daily drivers
Hey Guys,
Just thought I'd ask how many of you depend on your truck as a daily driver, or is it more of a toy. Some cars, and truck really can't make it as a daily driver. My 31' Ford truck is one of those, but my 63' Chevy is what I drive every day. I had to do quite a bit to it when I first got it, but it has turned out to be pretty dependable. So lets hear from you guys. Are your trucks drivers, or toys? Tim |

Re: Daily drivers
I switch between the 63 and the 72. But that is all I drive.

Re: Daily drivers
My '66 Chevy C10 lwb fleetside was my daily driver in high school and doubled as my work truck for my start-up lawn mowing business. My John Deere 111 riding mower fit between the wheel tubs and two Lawn Boy push mowers fit between the back of the mower and the tailgate.
My '65 Chevy lwb fleetside was my daily driver in college. I enrolled in an autobody class my senior year, to restore it. Shortly after it was completed, it was stolen. The truck was destroyed and considered a total loss by the insurance company, so I took the settlement check. I have several 4-5-6 Chevy Trucks in my collection, however, they could be daily drivers, I drive my 2000 Chevy Z71 Tahoe or my '98 Chevy K2500 with a Diamond utility bed on a daily basis. Re: Daily drivers
The 61 was my daily back in high school (91-95) and my Burbahoe has been doin the duty until recently when my gf picked up a little commuter (we're lucky that we can commute together).
There are pros and cons to using them as a DD. One pro is that it prevents you from going too far off the deep-end with it because it has to remain roadworthy. Another pro is that you get to roll in a classic everywhere you go. The cons are obviously racking the mileage and the inability to do a frame-off. That's why you have to have two |

Re: Daily drivers
Mine was my daily for 3 years. Then I got a '97 GMC Sonoma to drive in the winter. Still drive the '62 every day in the summer though! I drive it to Reno, Salem OR, Vegas, Salt Lake, Washington, Wyoming, all over Idaho, Etc. She racks up about 15,000 miles from March/April, to about October. I pull it out once in a while in the winter too.

Re: Daily drivers
I drive my 77 every day, but the 64 is planned to be a weekend road warrior. Once it's "complete", I'll probably drive it all summer.

Re: Daily drivers
Mines a daily driver.... but I only live a mile from my job.... so it doesn't see much road action during the week :0 . I usually put about 6o miles on it each weekend though.

Re: Daily drivers
That stinks! Before you run your engine again (with a new cam) have a look into oils that have additional zinc added. Most common oil has less zinc than it once did, presumably because the roller tappets of today don't need it. Probably has some pollution benefits as well. One cheap way is diesel oil, which has additional zinc.
