What did you get done? 02/10

I spent the weekend in San Antonio. We went there Frday night and had dinner on the River Walk at the Zuni Grill. The weather was awesome, and so was the food.

Saturday I went to the UTSA campus to watch my daughter play volleyball. Despite having 3 players out, they still had a good day placing 3rd in their division. Wehad expected much worse.

Sunday we went back to the River Walk and had lunch with my sister and bro-in-law at the Rainforest Cafe. Again the weather was awesome, and so was the food.

It's hard to beat a weekend filled with family, friends, favorite sports, great weather and good food.

Rebuilt the clutch master cylinder on my Volvo after it leaked fluid in my firewall! Other than taking it out for a little test drive, I’ve been locked in my room with midterms awaiting next week

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

i did nothing truck related except drive the thing to the dump with five loads of garbage from my projects..We own a construction company and the latest projects are involving brownstones which the owners want open floor plans so we are removing load bearing walls and installing steel beams and supports to hold the rest of the house up
Some of these houses have woodwork that is over 100 years old and we have to replicate different moldings etc its nervewracking but its a living
Saturday was spent with my electrician on one job and today we went and did a couple of small things today on another tomorrow is back to the grindstone
its gotten real cold here now so hopefully next weekend ill be able to do something.. i know working on my truck last week was alot of fun

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I cut the c-notches out for the Dropmember R&P on the 68. I ordered the rack but it left the place of departure the morning it was supposed to arrive @ the parts house here in TX. I did this in advance so I wouldn't have this problem.

I did receive the C6 brake stuff on Thursday & got my DM powder-coated semi-gloss black.

I worked all day today so maybe next weekend I can get some pics up for everyone on the brakes.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I changed carbs out on the 84 c10 going from our old quadrajet to the edelbrock 1405 I rebuilt a few weeks ago. Spent time going back and forth to the parts store after figuring out the egr hit the carb, then waiting on the plate to be ordered and come in, then finding out the air cleaner wouldn't fit on top, and haveing to buy a new one.

Finally got the idle mixture set, and runs good but gotta test drive still.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I finished a total brake rebuild I started last weekend on my Jimmy. New drums, wheel cylinders, hardware and shoes. I also changed the axle seals and put on a Summit aluminum rear diff cover. I put on a pair of rallys with new BFG All-Terrains with new lug nuts and a good pair of trim rings, caps and new lug nuts.

When I bought the truck, the PO said the brake light "stays on all the time, it doesn't mean anything though..." Yeah right. It really meant that one of the rear cylinders had a gushing leak and made a gooey mess of all the brake parts on that corner. The master cylinder was also bone dry for the rears.

It seemed to take forever because I was cleaning as I went and checking things over to make this thing a reliable driver. I had to finish it today because the rear diff cover was all chewed up on the bottom. The PO must have drug it across a rock and then tried to pound it back and seal it up with a whole tube of RTV. Turns out you can't get a 10 bolt rear diff cover from GM anymore either. I'm guessing one off a newer truck would actually work and is still available, but not according to my dealer. I ended up ordering one from Summit.

Maybe next weekend I can do the same to the front...

My truck was in ARC Audio's building at the Sacramento Autorama. I had a blast. Met alot of really nice people and made a friend or two in the process.

After the clean-up tonight, I was invited by the CEO of ARC Audio to appear in his booth at another show in June. I'm stoked.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I spent most of Saturday doing honey do's.We have our home on the market so its a real pain to get anything big started. But I didfinally get sick of looking at the purple rear window tint.I popped the rear glass out.Made it a lot easier to clean and retint.Sunday wife and I popped it back in.Only took about 10 min. Then 1 1/2 hrs at walmart and home depot. And all vehicles washed.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

saturday i cut and rewelded perches in my buddies 3.73 posi out of a 1995 ford ranger and adapted it into his 73' ford maverick. its was fun and the driveshaft only needed a different rear yoke. today i finished buttoning up a few customers engines and cleaned engine bays to ready them for some more unnecessary ponies. pretty accomplishing weekend for other peoples vehicles.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I put another set of 3/4 ton alloy wheels from a 2003 chevy hd on my 78 and then took it in for emissions, it passed. Pondering the thought of selling my 86 shorty, I know it was just painted and I'm waiting to pick-up an new seat w/ a consoel in it, but I never drive it, and has been sitting for months and now the battery is dead, so I've been thinking of selling it.

are you getting your seat locally? I've been trying to find a bench w/ console here but havent had any luck. If I remember right you already bought a bench for one of your other trucks right?

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

Well I managed to get my self in an accident. I rolled into a 01 2500 ram. I hit his bumper with the trim peice above my grill. Funny how I dented his bumper yet it only left a small mark on my trim. The guy was stupid saying he might have frame damage. LOL 2 mph. I dunno I got 4 points for wreckless driving and 4 more for no current proof of insurance. Oh well shiznick happens and thats why they differ tickets and we pay insurance.

Yeah it's the one I took out of the 78, I found some leather seats for it and had the bench w/ consoel reupholstered (sp?) to the same color as the interior in my red truck, also having the headliner done to. I'll try later this week to get some of pictures of the 78 with it's new seats. Their is some guy out here who is pulling seats out of mini vans to put in handicapped interiors and sells the seats he pulls out pretty cheap.

Re: What did you get done? 02/10

I hung out with family Saturday, Sunday I recovered my low back bucket seats...covers were purchased from Chris (CaptKaos), and they fit real nice. I had fun doing this, learned a lot, and saved $340 to boot!

Sorry for the crappy pics, will get better ones with the restored console this weekend.

It is really straightforward. The biggest tip I can give you is don't try to use the cheap hog ring pliers that come with the covers. Go out, spend $30 for a good spring loaded hog ring pliers (the angled ones)...it makes the job soooo much easier. Make sure the covers are soft and pliable, and pay attention to how the old covers came off. PM me if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help.

Jeff,

Did you take any pictures along the way? Did you do any foam work?

No, no pics along the way. I can do a write up however...shouldn't be too long or hard to follow, like I said, it was pretty straight forward.

Joe, the seats did not need any foam work.

Finished pulling the engine and transmission out of the 1 ton, and had the rest of it taken away.

Next week is looking to be one of major progress...
