Ok, im not into getting complicated with power steering, i bought 2 pumps at the junk yard, for nothing, they dont fit, i dont want to drill the frame nor welding and cutting stuff with a torch, besides the fact i dont have equipment for this, so that being said...

Would i be able to slap a steering from a 1953-1966 into my truck WITHOUT mods?
I bought almost everything for p/s but for my luck, it dont fit, so f... it, manual steering it is, the simpler the better; i jsut got a Dana 44 open knuckle so at least i get disk brakes. Since i bought the truck its been sitting on the garage in jack stands just because the former owner is a trucktard, he drove the thing with a broken-almost-torn-in-half steering box...

There is a way to mount a gearbox for power steering. Gonna move this over to the 4x4 forum for those guys over there. There may even be some info there for doing this.

I went to the junkyard and yanked i think it was a suburban steering box mounting plate, the think would kinda work but require drilling and too much fab work, at least too much for me.

If anyone had a Saginaw 312 laying around, THAT WORKS, i buy it, as long as it dont have craked housing, i buy it. cause paying all that money for a core i cant return, hell no!!

Mike I think some here that have used the newer box have had to dimple the frame. You may have to put some new holes in it.

Yeah, i guess i cant scape reallity; well, at least the plate i got will save me some hammering and 4 holes, just need to make 2 according to my meassurements. Any one with a old style steering pump, i need to take a pic to the brakets and see how its mounted.

Yep only way to add power is going to be break out the drill and ether use spacers or weld on a pwer steering frame section. for the pwer steering pump there are to many variables to give you a straght ansewr we would need to know what it cam off of and what its goign one. SB chevys had to water pumps long and short so that makes a difrenc pus year changes.

I have the direstions and pics to make power steering onto a 67 frame, requires a torch to heat and a hammer to beat and thats all. PM me with email if you want those directions for dimpling the frame. I didn't want to go this route, so I made spacers and it worked well. Another option is to make a cardboard template of a frame with power steering and take it to a fab guy. They can make the four hole pattern out of 1/2 inch plate, then use that as a spacer so that the box sits off the frame but bolts tightly.

I agree. I made two spacers out of 1/2 inch plate, two bolts each. box sits off the frame but bolts up tight. Works great. Longer bolts needed of course.

there are to kit out there you can buy 1 comes with the bolts and spacers one is weld on both are around $70. JC witny sells one ord sells one and brothers sells one.

Well during my absence, i was meditating about this thing and what i did was drill a hole on the frame of course, but just one. then i thought about making some holes in the plate and fabricating some brakets.

It might not sound as the most safest way, but i will keep you guys posted about this set up when im done and i can drive my truck [i still need to work the brakes] i used a 1/8 steel braket.

I will post pics jsut before i install the gizmos.

I have seen all the methods as stated above and am still trying to decide on which way to go with mine.... I won't be torching and hammering though, I can tell you that.

I think the way that looks the best is to use a pece of an old frame from a 71 up and weld it over the origanl frame when you do it that whay you cant even tell it wasnt factory.

plus it doubles the strength of one of the weakest parts of the truck.

I noticed the CPP has a bolt on kit for 60's era trucks, maybe it will work... $89 though...

That seams to be the going rate for the kits from 79 to 100.

looks like it's a special plate with spacers and a backing plate for the inside.... I might try something like that out since I already painted my frame...

they say it's for 60-66 but my 68 frame isn't dimpled since it had manual steering...

Hey buds, i was working on the brakes and axle swap, im done with that, got the p/s gear from a 4WD truck, mounted that, now, the problem is that i got the pump a while ago, and i dont even remenber how that thing goes in the engine, the truck i got the pump from was a 2WD with the p/s conversion, but like i said, that was a while ago and i had to do so much to the truck, but almost there.

That big bracket looks like the alt bracket. You need to look at another to see how they go.

Yep, the thing is didnt take it off the donor, so i dont remenber, but yeah, im heading to the j/y tomorrow, hopefully they still have the old trucks i seen about 2 months ago, or more trucks [they recycle trucks like crazy]

I have the BB pulley too, but i have the feeling im missing stuff. I will post pics when i get it on and a little how-to for ppl that want to go my route. I drilled just one hole on the frame, fabricated a bracket and mouted the pulley from a blazer [i think] steering gear plate; the braket i made is between the steering gear plate and the frame has an s shape; but does anyone has this alt braket, it would help if u have some pics of it mounted.

I have the same bracket. It bolts to one hole on the thermostat housing and one bolt on the front to the intake or block. I don't think I have any pics but will look.

Not installed yet man, i found out the issue, i have a short water pump, and the top braket for the alt, is for a BB, i found the same shape braket but smaller from a SB i pulled 2 out just in case. The donors where a Cheyenne 10 and a Custom 10 years rangin on the 70's. So, long water pump it is. I show pics of the intall tho, the previous owner is a truck-tard.

Hopefully i dont find any differences on the blocks for the water pump and it should fit but i took my pump out and im going to take it to the j/y to match the flanges and make sure they fit, the way i see it, if the water pump fits, the long one, it will be a brezee cause i got the steering box in already so is a plug-n-playset up pretty much.
