3 on tree trouble
anyone have insight for my troubles which are shifting gears with my 3 on tree. Looks to me like I am missing a guide pin that helps hold stuff together, but I am also having trouble with column as the steering wheel can be pulled in or out somewhat due to a worn out rag joint? The connection between the two shafts?

And, definitely, the up and down movement of the steering column is not normal and may be part of the problem. |

Re: 3 on tree trouble
Here is a thread that is posted in the FAQ section. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=215307
It has photos and shows how to adjust it. Maybe from the photos you can see if you are missing something. Almost sounds to me like you are missing the spring in the end. On the bottom end of the column, where it connects to the steering shaft, there should be a pin or bolt holding a large flat washer in place and behind the washer is a spring. Pulling the column out is fairly simple. Hardest part I had was getting the rag joint apart.

Re: 3 on tree trouble
Steering column diagram from the LMC truck catalog. Part 44 is what I am thinking you may be missing or not installed properly.
