another barn find
I took today off----have cash in hand--- to go try to buy a 70 chev short step thats been sitting in a barn since 1997. I have tried to buy it for a year, but have never found him home to talk to. He must be hiding when he see's me comming. I want it and am determined to bring it home today! I'll take pictures.

Re: another barn find
Thanks Bishop. I'm trying to pry my son out of bed to help load it if I make a deal. I think thats more work than making a deal to buy it. No school on fridays so he wants his sleep.

Good Luck ... I have been asked nicely and not so nicely to get the hell off someone's property for asking about purchasing a vehicle that didn't have a For Sale sign on it.

Re: another barn find
Good luck. I have done the same thing in the past and it helps to have cash. It shows you aren't just a tire kicker and wasting time. Just be careful, some people get all bent out of shape when you ask them to sell something that is not clearly for sale.

Re: another barn find
Well-- good news and bad news. Good news is that I bought it and hauled it to my nephews place. Bad news is that it isn't quite the pickup I thought is was in the barn. I think my mind ran away with the idea it was or could be really something. I paid $1500 and think I over spent. Turns out it has a hole in the oil pan you can see in the picture. He also included another small block without the intake. Maybe someone can ID by the pictures. Also included the origional 4 speed and other parts.

Re: another barn find
Thanks jott 06 for the decode. Now what to do. the seller said th engine in it had high preformance heads. Although he also thought it only had a soft plug out. I could use those heads on up to the carb on top of the spare engine block. I guess i'll start by looking into what came apart that made the cut in the pan. Is it easier to work with the front clip off, or just remove the hood?

you should be able to get it out without pullllig the hood also. looks like a decent deal to me, did yuo think it was in runing shape? not to be a dick but thats the sort of thing that makes old cars retire to the barns |

Re: another barn find
I knew it didn't run because he said it had steam comming of the side of the engine. He said he was told it was a soft plug. But I questioned why he had the extra engine. The real story was told when I winched it onto the trailer and it was leaking a oil and water mix onto the trailer. I could of backed out, but what the heck, I'll fix it.

TBF 1979 350 convcab, alt, fed L LS9 165 K-10,15,20 I would say it's the 79 version because it's blue. coulda been painted, though. i would say helluva a deal for 1500. have fun, and just to tease, here's what my brother's 70 short step looked like after where we pulled it out of the quanset we bought it at and what it looks like today.

Re: another barn find
Been out picking up more stuff today. Traded my snowmobile trailer off for this. I dont own a snow mobile anyway. As for rust in the 70-- All I found was a thin spot on the passenger side floor. I can patch that.

Re: another barn find
I think you did just fine. It looks like a really straight original truck.... Between fixing a motor or fixing rust- I'll take the motor every time....
