Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
Well, I've got the capital to get started on my ol' 69. For info you can see the original thread here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=227343
Engine and Trans are almost ready to come out. Just a couple more lines and wheel it inside my buddy's shop when he actually has a bay open. Havin' to do everything out back of the shop with hand tools at the moment. Only power tools I've had my hands on so far is the sawzall when I went Leatherface on the exhaust system to get it out I decided I'm not goin' with an ls1 because of price for hop-up parts. Jeez thats expensive. So I've got MOST of 98 corvette engine for sale right now. Got a 350 out of a 78 Suburban 4X4 comin' in tomorrow that I'll be doin' a light overhaul on. Sucker's complete pan to carb. Even has all the accessories. Heck its still got belts and a fan. Also got a 200-4r out of an 85 Buick Regal T-Type for cheap. Engine and Trans less than $1000 total. Sounded like a fair deal. Summit has a bellhousing adapter and lockup controller for a decent price. Should be a pretty beefy tranny. Bed is toast. Too kinked. Got a guy who can get me another in good shape for about $300-400. Hmmm...so lets see, sell LS1, sell Powerglide(got a couple dragracers foamin' at the mouth already), Tax Returns......Early Classics is about to make bank offa me

always liked that color... one year only.
You shouldn't need any adapters for the bellhousing. |

Looks like you are going to have your hands full for a while. I understand and feel your pain on going "leather face" on the exhaust. Keep up the good work.
The circle track guys love them for some reason. I work with some of them. The problem is they all want something for cheap since most race claimer class.

Got the numbers off the new engine's block. 3970010. Don't know if hi or lo perf. Info on the web says it could be 2 or 4 bolt, 185 or 370hp. It came out of 78-79 suburban 4x4....You guys got any ideas? I'll be tearin' it apart this week and gettin the rest of the numbers.

Cool truck. Funny to still see some of those original style overloads on these coil rear suspension trucks.

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
kind of a generic block # anything from a 302 hp a 327 trucck or industrial mtr or a later truck 2-4 bolt main but since it;s used for these HD mtrs I would suspect at least a high nickle content block .check the trans side of motor for a 010 020 numbers

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
Well, started pullin the engine apart today. Head casting is 333882. From what I've heard, not all that great, but I'm just lookin to get the ol girl runnin at this point. Its amazing, the engine is grungy and horrible on the outside, but clean as a whistle inside. It had to have been rebuilt not long before the truck got trashed.
Gonna get it up on a stand tomorrow, pull the heads and oilpan and see how it looks. Don't think I'm gonna need more than a gasket set for this baby. Already got a new fuel pump, water pump, intake and carb comin. Edelbrock performer RPM and a Holley 570 Street Avenger. Not lookin' for power, just figured it'd be easier to ditch all the emissions crap that way.

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
actually one of the high performance magazines used these heads on a rebuild and got decent #'s ,it's a 76cc head like you said not the best but they aren't the cheap lightweight castings either

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
Alright, got pics of the "new" engine. I think I made bank on this puppy. Note: Most of the crud in it just fell in when I pulled it apart. This thing was rebuilt RECENTLY. Had to have been. Score one for junkyard scroungin'. Think it was worth the $650 I paid for it.
This sucker's just gettin a cleanup, regasket, and oilpump. I think it'll be good to go with that.

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
BTW, does anyone know the paint code for this truck or what the color is called? Have pics? Everybody says its a one year only option, but I have no idea. Tryin' to decide whether to go mean primer or rare original factory color when it goes to the body shop. The white cab is goin' though. Never cared for that look. Its goin' to be one solid color when its done.

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
Wow its been awhile since I started this. Figured I'd give an update.
Work on the truck is officially halted. I got it down to the frame and cab and realized the rot in the cab is worse than I thought. There were chunks of metal falling out when I started to pull the AC Rust all up in the front corners of the cab, up top under the cowl plate. Being a college student now, I don't have the funds to do the body work the way I really want to at this time. I'll now be working on the 85 Regal T-type I bought to be a transmission donor instead. Its in one piece, body wise anyway. Only a couple of small rust spots on the bottom of the door and the drivers side rear quarter down at the bottom. I always loved the Grand Nationals and the like anyway. I can get it back up in good running shape for cheaper at this point. I'm going to slap the truck back together as is when I have the spare cash. Powerglide stays in, and I'll be using the 350 I got which is almost ready to go back together. New shocks, rebuild 4 wheel drums, and do the bare minimum needed to make the truck street worthy. Looks like it'll have to continuing living as a beater work truck for a couple of more years. I'll post pics in a few days

Re: Teardown begins...MWHAHAHA!!!!! Pics
DEAD THREAD REDEMPTION!!!!
Okay, so, to give an update. I unfortunately had to sell my truck not long after my last post on this thread to help put a down payment on a house. A worthy sacrifice, but damn it broke my heart The Day She Left Me. Fast forward to 2013. I've got a home of my own and a decent payin' job. I've sold all my projects and I'm pretty much outta the car game. I'm helpin a lady at work look on craigslist for a cheap vehicle to drive when I stumble across an ad for 69 C10 project. 1st pic I see is a dark red door and think, 'rare to see a truck the same color as my old one'. Then I look through more pics and notice a particular dent in the side of the bed and realize, "OMG! THAT'S MY TRUCK!!!!"....long story short, she's switched hands a couple times, but I got my old truck back! Never expected to ever see her again. Dude I bought her back from was cool people. The Day She Came Back to Me. The engine I'd built for her and the original powerglide are gone (and so is the front bumper) so I'm basically starting over from scratch. I bought a Shelterlogic SUV garage-in-a-box kit from Northern Tool that I'll be standin' up beside my shed. Already got a 60gl 220 air compressor. Gonna lay down some 3/4" plywood to roll jacks and such around. Gonna take some time, but I'm gonna take her back down to the frame and rebuild her from the ground up. Got my own place to work on her now and the tools to do it. Expect sporadic updates to this thread. I'm gonna save the money and do everything right this time instead of scroungin' and junkyard hoppin'. New crate motor and trans and such. I'm just happy to have a member of the family back. Welcome home, Darlin'! I've even got another cheap work truck now to haul things around while I'm workin on her. Amidoinitright? (mix friends, Zombieland, booze, and spare rattle cans, and this is what you get )

Dunno why the other guy painted the panels up like he did. I thought he'd replaced the panels til I got a closer look. Which wouldn't have made any sense to me since all the original panels were still good. I'd emailed and talked on the phone with the guy I bought it from before I went and looked. Poly gas tank under the bed with lines run along the passenger framerail? Yep. Aluminum block-off plate where the AC system was under the hood? Yep. 'Littrell Motor Co. Athens, AL' stamped into the rear bumper? Yep....THAT'S HER!!!!! I'll get her right this time and she ain't leavin again. My financial standing is much better these days than when I was on the poor college boy budget back when I started this thread. Plus I've got my own home, covered work space, and airtools on hand now. Its gonna take a while, but its gonna be good.
