Need help with some things on a 49 Chevy

This thing was parked around 20 to 25 years ago for a bad starter, wheres the best place to get a starter, and is there a way to get rid of the starter with the button on it? How about the simplest wiring harness, a good comlete one for a guy that doesn't know much about rewiring a truck...lol. I haven't checked yet to see if the engine isn't locked up tight, but I will need the starter and harness. The clutch pedal is on the floor but everthing except starter worked when parked, could be knocked loose somewhere maybe, I hope so. Hooked up battery and nothing works, but the only 2 knobs I see are tight. What does the ones of you that have 350's do, they say the V-8's it the steering box, do you need rack and pinion steering to clear everything? I can really use a little help and a push in the right direction.

Re: Need help with some things on a 49 Chevy

this is something worth checking out if you are keeping the original straight axle.
Im looking at putting a sbc 350 in my 52 and might use this setup. http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...ing-Trucks.htm

And as far as wiring goes alot of people use ezwire http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html I don't have experience with them as I decided to rewire my truck from scratch but im crazy like that, but i heard good things about them though. You could also try painless or ron francis http://www.painlessperformance.com/ http://www.ronfrancis.com/ they are a bit more expensive, Ive heard they are same quality but with way better customer service then ezwire.

here is a good thread on some info on different wire harness companies http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=275319
