Stock looking AM/FM?

I am a newbie just starting to restore my grandpas 70 c10. It has a non-working AM radio and I thought it would be cool to just put a stock AM/FM in there ... but I can't find any real nice ones for sale.
Are there any new aftermarket AM/FM units out there that look like stock? Something that most people would think came with the truck? I don't want or need cassette.
I did a search on this site first but didn't see anything about this. Thanks.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

Can't say as I've ever seen anything like that. The am/fm in the vans are close if not identical looking for our trucks. Not sure on the years though. I'm sure someone with more info than I will chime in.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

Welcome to the 67-72 Truck Site from West Michigan!

Here is a link to a site that has good used radios that they have gone through. The radios are really nice but pricey.

Have you had good luck with this radio? I got a USA-6 and it was a nightmare. It never worked correct, and I had to send it back for repairs. The display kept going out and I just gave up and returned it. Another thing was the knobs never sat correctly. They were way too far away from the dash, and I couldn't get them to sit closer like stock ones. I should have know it was no good when the box it came in weighed more than the radio itself. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

Many GM AM/FMs from this era look simular to the factory truck option. They are all alot of money, too.Like $200+.FM in a car was just kicking off and it`s rare to see.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

Custom Autosound is a low quality unit,in sound and durability.I had one in a`65 Biscayne and it only lasted about a year.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

You can have your AM radio converted to FM and also have outputs added to it for your MP3 player or IPOD. It cost about $400.00 though.

I've talked to him at events in PA. The radios looked nice that he was selling but I think he wanted an exchange radio for that price.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

Thanks for the advise guys.
Found an original one on egay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-72...spagenameZWDVW

What do these usually go for? Seems like alot already!! Maybe I should stick to an aftermarket one but still need to find a good brand.

Re: Stock looking AM/FM?

I bought mine for $319 shipped. There have been a couple on the board in the last few weeks between $275 and $350. I dont think they pop up on the board that often, but they seem to be on ebay fairly steady. The sound quality isn't the best, but Its in a old truck that is rarely driven. That one on ebay looks super nice. If I had the money I would get it and save it for a project some day. I think it is going to go for a lot, way more than the $330 it is at now.
