My Powder Coating
Hey Guys, I have been powder coating down here at the GatorHyde shop when I am not spraying bedliners. Pretty much got this chit all fingered out. I had an extra set of BBC race styled valve covers in bare cast. Here they are in cast and then fresh out of the oven in Viper Red. Whaddaya Think??? Just thought I'd share cause we all like pics!

Re: My Powder Coating

Re: My Powder Coating
No secret. Spray the red, no masking. Go back very carefully with a damp foam brush and dab away the bulk of the powder off the letters. Then carefully run a finger down them to remove all the last residue powder. Bake.

There is a tape out on the market that is used for the powder coating. I had some pieces done on a TPI intake and they sprayed the powder and baked it with this tape. It is tough stuff and it stood up to the heat. Last edited by piecesparts; 03-14-2008 at 11:45 PM. |

Re: My Powder Coating
That's one of those do it yourself/cook in the over right? I have been sitting on the fence about one of those kits, I just don't have the space for a spare oven. I'd use it on small stuff, wheels, suspension stuff, motor parts etc, etc, etc. I have lots of stuff I'd coat, just no place to do it. BTW love those BBC valve covers!!

Re: My Powder Coating
Thanks everyone. Gun/kit is a Caswell basic hobby set-up. I have two oven's , a standard kitchen stove and a larger 6.5' x 4' x4' oven. Thinking about stepping up to a PRO gun by Gema...but the expense is quite a bit.

Looks good man! I have a couple of kits and ovens as well and love them. Plus it helps fund the truck a little

Re: My Powder Coating
Eastwood has a gun set up for $99 and it comes with powder etc, but if you can afford the better gun buy it now as I very rarely say I wish I had bought the cheaper one! Powder is consumable and available in lots and lots of color varieties!!

Re: My Powder Coating
as stated above.
I like eastwood, caswell, and columbia coatings. Only problem I ever had was the eastwood primer. Never used it again. Other then that, they are all good.

Re: My Powder Coating
That's the main (only, actually) reason I'd say go with Eastwood. Last time I was looking at guns, they had a "powder club" or something that you can join (or get free access to?) for a year after your gun purchase, and I believe you get deeply discounted powder from them.
I also noticed something else they have that looks cool today: http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...emType=PRODUCT Powder remover! There was someone asking about this recently, I should link 'em up.

Re: My Powder Coating
I just had a totally random and possibly stupid thought. Can an engine block and heads be powdercoated? I haven't heard of this before, just wondering. Thanks all
