door shell interior
I have taken apart my doors to do a little work on them. On the inside of the outer skin the factory sprayed or brushed on a thick substance. Is this to stiffen up the skin and keep it from flexing or for sound or both? A lot of it is peeling up, any good ways to remove it?

That's the factory sound deadner. No easy way to get it off where it is stuck good. The loose stuff should just break off or scrape off. LockDoc

Re: door shell interior
I used laquer thinner to soften it and then scraped it off. I didn't take my doors apart though so I had to try and get it all through the access hole... did one door completely like that. The other I still dumped some thinner in and scraped off the loose stuff but left the areas where it held on good. Its lasted 35 years already

Re: door shell interior
thanks for the info. I have to do a little work to the bottoms of my doors so I may have an easier time getting to it.
