quick timing question
tdc #1, should the cam gear be at 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock?

I'm assuming you have the front off the motor, & it's a V-8.
The index mark on the cam shaft (big) sprocket should be @ 6 o'clock, & the index for the crank sprocket should be @ 12 o'clock. There should be an imaginary vertical line from the center of the cam to the center of the crank that passes through both indices. I hope this helps you. El Jay

thats what i thought, but i saw a write up on here on changing a cam. on there the guy said tdc #1 was with both marks on the sprockets pointing towards 12 o'clock. got me a little confused. thanks for clearing it up.

finally got everything put back together, but hadnt fired it up. then i saw that and i was like oh oh, i really hope he's wrong.

Also the crank keyway should be facing imaginary 2 o'clockfor top dead center.
