Talking It's back on the road!

After sitting since about 2003, my work in progress finally made a trip longer than a quickie corner-n-back run. It ain't no show truck & there are lots of details to finish yet, but at least it is presentable enough to drive again. It's in far better shape now than it has ever been since I first met up with it in 1990- buying it around 1996. It's cool how an old truck catches attention. A guy came up & commented on it at my first stop for gas last night. I'm feeling like a big kid right now

Looking very good jeffspower...I agree...these trucks are are head turners. Buy a new truck and see if you get as many comments.

Re: It's back on the road!

Thanks everyone! The seats are out of a '99 Silverado- both are power & has the jumper seat. I put a new Blazer tank in it yesterday to free up cab space. It's nice having somewhere to stuff things like coats. I don't have a filler neck done yet- just a hose & plug hanging in the wheelwell so far. I'm thinking of just putting it inside the LR corner of the box sticking up a few inches. I can just cut off the old tanks filler neck, cut a hole with a hole saw & use a cab tank grommet in the floor. I'll have the exhaust shop bend me a filler pipe & weld the neck to it, then attach to the tank with a short piece of stick hose.

Re: It's back on the road!

Andy, doubt I'll make it to the meet at Ron's. Dunno if I can scratch up (or am willing to) about $500 for gas. But ya never know... at the last minute I could change my mind. At least the Indian Cave meet is only 1-1/2 hours away.

Nate, I've only been in MO a few years and never made it to the All Truck Nats yet. I plan on going, but don't know about showing. Neither of these trucks are show material. Or do daily drivers with so-so paint fit in?

72BlckButy, I checked out your pics- sweet. your seat material looks pretty close to mine. Here's a few pics of when I started putting them in. And yes, the S10 wheel has gotta go- it came on the column- yuck!

I would definitely show that truck!!!

Jeff, I would have my truck up there in a minute if I had a trailer to get it there. (I just don't truck it to make the 300-400 mi round trip. That show has a little bit of everything from completed to in progress, but that's what I love about the show. I entered my truck into the Magic Dragon Nat's at the Lake of the Ozarks, and didn't even bat an eye. I was sitting next to $30,000+ cars/trucks/bikes and had a great time. I hope to see you up there, we haven't missed a year since we found the show, and don't plan on missing one in the future. Thanks for checking out my truck... it has a long way to go. The seat is actually out of a F**d truck, and was installed by the PO, so I'm in search for a factory bench. I just picked up a '72 tilt from crews, so I can't wait to get that column installed in the truck, plus I still need to install my swaybar. I love the interior color on your truck.

ed2552 you make a valid point. My thinking was if you had one of our trucks (hi $$$ or low $$$) sitting next to a high $$$ newer truck...many times our truck will get more attention. Maybe I'm just partial to our trucks. Anyhow...jeffspower has a nice looking truck.

Re: It's back on the road!

Definitely, all the newer trucks at the Car Craft Summer Nats have at least another 20-30k invested OVER the base price, but the older trucks, particulary 67-72 chevys, only cost the owner maybe 20,000 for a really good show stopper.

Re: It's back on the road!

We have that same seat, pretty much, in our 05 Crew Cab Duramax and it is more comfortable than our 02 LT Burban and My 98 LT tahoe, even though only the bottom of the driver's seat is power, whereas the Tahoe and Burban are Full Power, and leather, and it is only cloth
