Re: Carpet Manufactures
I've been trying to find one that has the high beam grommet hole. I found these guys on ebay, but I don't know what quality is like. They say they are GM restoration parts. Who knows? Anyone buy one from these guys?

Re: Carpet Manufactures
Fnally someone who has the same problems as I do with ACC. I restored my 71 using their carpet- truck is in the garage and under a cover and it STILL faded out, instead of learning a lesson I bought another set from them in hopes that it would be better, it does not fit right along the ridge in the floor for the buckets -it is almost a wrinkle and no amount of steam with remove it so it lays flat. I have a set of Trims Parts carpet for my 72 so we shall see around October if it fits......

Re: Carpet Manufactures
I have Trim Parts brand carpet in mine. Can't compare it to anything but I have no complaints either. Supposedly they have the original GM molds.

Re: Carpet Manufactures
I don't have any personal experience with Trim Parts but there's a carpet install article in this month's CC Trucks magazine and that's who they used for their carpet. It looked pretty good.

Re: Carpet Manufactures
I called them and they said carpet comes with grommet for you to install. I may try one of these too.

Item # 8004 . Low Hump 67-72, automatic, with tank removed. I just ordered mine yesterday. I should have it by Sat or Mon. It was CHEEEPP!!! $125 out the door for a molded piece that will fit with the gas tank removed. Not bad price, hope the carpet is molded ok though. Last edited by jayharrell; 03-28-2008 at 07:01 PM. Re: Carpet Manufactures
Use spray glue on the carpet, especially over the hump in the floor (high is worst), to get it tight!
ACC has nicer vinyl edging and a much better fitting gas tank cover. I thought they had the fading problem solved. They actually had a bad batch of black carpet that faded fast. Anyone still having that problem? |

Re: Carpet Manufactures
I did..... heavy - I actually bought another one because i thought they screwed up and sent me the "high" hump -- that's how bad they BOTH are!
I took some heat shield insulation and padded the hump to take up some of the slack - well after about three or four inches it looked like ____! Also the fact that this one is a 70 and the accelerator pedal is in the floor and has those two knobs that you push the pedal into - well they make no provisions for this and i guess expect you to cut a hole for them -- thats ok but its so close to the hump and there is so much slop that it literally binds the pedal... Maybe I just got a bad batch - but i can tell you this, now i have $250 in carpet that i am not going to use and nothing to do with it. I would assume that just like me - most of you guys will not accept much less than perfect on your restores - and a company who is making replacement carpet for vehicles over 30 years old SHOULD assume that the people who are restoring them are sinking BIG bucks into the project and are not going to overlook carpet that DOES NOT fit.... thats my take anyway... again thanks for all the help guys - i ordered Trim Parts from Kenny's today. Cypress -

Re: Carpet Manufactures
Can you verify that we had 80/20 loop in our trucks originally? Also, what are you guys running and what works the best. I am going to use my truck as well as take it to local cruise ins, so i want the carpet to hold up. Which pile is better for looks/durability? Thanks.
Jay, can you let us know whether it comes with a grommet for the high beam switch and of course, let us know fitment when you get around to installing it. Thanks! |

Re: Carpet Manufactures
Definatly. I'll take some pics when i get it. I've also got the fitted heat padding kit from LMC *xmas gift from the wife* I just hope it fits well with that too.
But my 69 also has the pegs on the floor for the gas. I can't wait. I should have over nighted the damn thing. |

Re: Carpet Manufactures
My .02... I will be installing some black indoor/ outdoor from Home Depot. Material is nice and will cost me about $60 for enough to cover inside and the bed.
I used similar carpet in a custom van and it came out really nice. Just takes more time and energy installing. This will be a daily driver so I am not so worried about original loop or pile.

Re: Carpet Manufactures
I'm not worried about the loop either. Just gather up the cheapest they had. I think i should rename the truck to 'poor white trash'.
But i went with the 80'20 loop. On my first truck a 64 *f word* step side 292 i just pulled the grey carpet out of a 92 buick trunk. It was big enough. But no loop. It showed wear like crazy. I think the loop will work good. Just have to keep the kids and nugget sause out. |

Re: Carpet Manufactures
ok, I just put the rubber mat down, not sure what brand. Now does carpet have reinforsed holes for the little steel pins that stick out of the floor board, one on each side above your feet, my rubber mat had holes to slide over these pins to keep it from sliding around, so which carpet has that, plus the dimmer hole?

Re: Carpet Manufactures
We use and sell ACC. Won't touch Trim Parts...again! Yes, we did order it in and compare it. The fit & finish on Trim Parts was just not as good, as stated above. Their carpet & gas tank cover are so far off, they leave big patches of the bare floor showing...and we have pictures for those who don't believe.

LOL. ACC or Trim Parts. Battle for the ages. Might as well be Coke and Pesi.
