Here is a truck my 15 year old friend is interested in. . .my other friend is selling it for 800 bucks. . .i have a lot of pics of all the little places like fender well corners and all where there is usually rust, this truck has none. . .the motor is a stock 305, vacuum hoses need to be replaced but drives right now. . .My friend, Allen123 on the board, Has around 4,000 to put into it in the next couple months, good buy?

1985 Chevy c10 long bed
305-stock
Shaved tailights, door handles, and bed rail hole things.
The previous tail lights, door handles, front and rear bumper are included with the 800 bucks. . . .

Two things I don't like, mid-eighties Q-jet equipped vehicles and it's in primer. I think primer hides way to many issues.
But, is does run and drive for $800 though...

If they could shave and hide where the door handles and tail light were make sure they didn't hide the rust as well.

Looks like a good deal and you say you've seen the truck and there's no rust. The only problem is he will have to work on it to get it street legal seeing there's no tail lights. I say any running, driving truck is worth 800 bucks and you say your friend has around 4 grand to put into it? I say get it and start working on it so he can drive it when he gets his license.

i say go for it maybe even try yo low ball and get it cheaper. just make sure the primer is not hiding and body cancer.

If i had $4 k --- i would be looking at trucks that are ready to drive. I have seen longbeds in very good shape (original paint, good interiors) and under 100k miles that would fit a 4k budget easily (i'm from Moore)

It look's like a solid truck but i think i'd hold out a bit longer and find a shorty thats more road worthy and has a lot less work to be performed, i'm also thinkin' a 15 YO kid isn't gonna' like driving a grandpa long bed truck once he start's driving and all his buddy's have shorty's.

Tell him don't rush into it and buy the first truck you look at, And another thing to consider is buy from a stranger some times buying from a friend or family can turn out bad.

keep us up dated on what he decides to do.

that part of it doesn't matter. Very few kids are into vintage trucks now anyway, sadly enough (these body styles are 20- 35 years old now -- definitely making them vintage) Our society is a watered down reflection of its former self and it shows anytime you look at a high school parking lot

If you can get a lwb for 1500 less than a shortbed - then thats well worth it. They all go the same speed, and they all crash the same the first time you curbshot it or put it in a ditch

Regardless of what wheelbase he buys, he should get a better truck. If he has a 4000.00 budget, he should be able to get a pretty nice truck that he can drive right away. I would pass on that truck and find as nice of a truck as possible that fits his budget.

i will definately. . . .i know he prefers short beds, but he is considering this also for all the possibilities. . . he can customize it to his liking in my opinion. . .but i haven't talked to him a great deal yet. . .

Dang i wish i had 4K to throw when i was 15........ For 4K tho you could pick up a nice rust free driver and still have money to "play" with it. It would defiantly get you a decent SWB or a better then average LWB.
I guess it is all in what he wants. And if he is sure he wants a 73-87 or a 67-72. I don't regret getting my 84 or putting the money I have into it heck I plan on keeping it forever.... but I would have got a 72 IF i could of found one in good shape in my price range.

dang chase thanks for posting this and my dad printd off alot of trucks that are forsale that he thought were pretty good deals and i picked out the ones i liked most and we are going to go look at them sometime this week but i'll keep you updated on my decision

Old dude advice 101-

allen123 take everyone's advice here and BE PATIENT. Yeah, I know it sucks to hear that but a bad impulse buy takes a long time to recover from. Shop around until you find the nicest truck you can afford. You can always mod it later, but not if your spending all your spare coins on repairs...
