rebuilding hydroboost M/C? (pics)
I picked up a complete hydroboost system out of a 80's diesel suburban with the pump and M/C.
Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic: I paid 75 bucks for it. My question is, how can I tell if the MC is still in operable condition? If it isnt, is there a way to rebuild them? Hopefully I wasnt overzealous in picking this up - it was a christmas present from my folks =P I am going to hydroboost to correct this: The PB booster is just barely above the driver side valve cover (this is what happeneds when you use 73+ SBC frame towers on a 72). I have since bought the correct 72 only towers which will help a lot, but I still want to install the hydroboost set up. I appreciate the help!

Few more pics of the unit..
Btw: I always though the H/B PS pumps had a much larger resivoir - my stock BBC PS bracket is the right width. Still havent attempted to bolt it up to see if it needs any modification for the lines though. As for the rod/pedal connection, I have read that 8 1/2" from the firewall is correct. Seems like a cinch to use a turnbuckle type female/female connecter with a rod and eyelet to get the right length.

I looked over it and found some threads that will be useful, but they dont seem to keen on helping those who are doing a DIY install, as it is a corporate forum intended to help those who have bought/are buying their products

Re: rebuilding hydroboost M/C? (pics)
The Hydroboost is a rugged unit. They seldom give trouble except sometimes they leak. The master cyl part is easy to replace & is reasonably priced as a reman. If you decide to go into the hydro unit get good directions. There is some sort of reserve pressure in them that can cause serious injury.

You can use the master you currently have on your truck.
Just make sure that the depth for the push rod is the same or close enough to adjust it correctly. This may help with specs and part numbers. http://www.thehollisterroadcompany.com/hydroboost.html There is also a write up on this site about the swap. |
