is it possible to fab?
Is it possible to fab a air snorkel type thing that would go to the carb, but gets ducted like the fuel injection engines. You know the 3" tubing that runs to the engine. The reason i ask is, i think it would be cool to run the newer style engine covers over my engine, with a carb setup? I'm just wondering if one there would be enough clearance under those to do this, and if so how it would work from a mechanical standpoint Did i get my idea across or did i completely loose you?

Re: is it possible to fab?
funny you would ask as my son and had the same idea discussed at lenth on this past tuse. i thought that 3" crome pipe or abs plastic or a fab up and say put a AEM cold air kit dry filter on. we used the AEM clod air kit on the colbalt works good (2007 2L supercharged with a stage II kit) so with a bit of skill and so material it should work. here the page http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=19 for the idea 463

Re: is it possible to fab?
I seen this a long time ago (and forgot about it) until I saw 71STPSDEs engine bay. It gets really hot here and thought it would be a good idea for cooler fresh air. You might PM him or someone else knows where to get this.

Re: is it possible to fab?
On that plastic air cleaner with chrome lid. Yeah, those air cleaners have been advertised in the mags for years. But I think Berencam is wanting to use some sort of plastic engine cover something like a Vette cover for example and run an air intake tube into it for the carb. I won't say you can't do it but I will say it could turn into a lot of work.
How bout buying one of those fiberglass scoop covers like on Copperhead painted to match? Not a complete engine cover but cool none the less.

Re: is it possible to fab?
i would like to fab something like this up to work underneath a plastic engine cover. But im more concerned from a airflow standpoint that i will disrupt the amount of air reaching the carb. I would think i could fab something up out of fiberglassthat could run under a engine cover. Im just not sure theres enough space under one of those covers in between the carb and the cover to run air to the carb. So all that being said, does the shape of the snorkle attached to the carb make any difference? Would it create turbulance going over the jets and not properly mix? What is the smallest size tubing i would want to work with? How many inches are between the top of a engine cover and say the intake/block surface so i can get an idea of what size tubing i could run to it?
Alot of questions sorry |

Re: is it possible to fab?
any thing is possable with determination. while i like the idea of a fresh air intake system i see no need for a plastic diper to cover the engine

Re: is it possible to fab?
Yea you got it nailed boog, i want to use those covers and paint em to match my engine. There really is no need for the plastic covers, other than i think if i painted them to match it would look real nice.
