Super or not so Super
Gentlemen. This is my first time to post here on this forum. I have been a long time admirer of the 67-72 chevy trucks. I purchased my first 72 about 6 months ago. It was a Lwb 72 cheyenne super. Original 402 truck unmolested and bought from the original owner, an old timer who used it as his daily drivin grocery getter. Long story short I had to sell the truck. I am in the market once again and every body I talk to seems to be a professional on the 67-72 chevy truck although stories often conflict. I am very interested in a particular truck. I have already decided to buy the truck but would like to know what i am getting. The guy I am buying the truck is telling me that it is a cheyenne super but the sticker with the options reads custom sport truck which is another option.Anybody care to share some light.Thanks. By the way this is one of if not the best sight ive been to. Though this is my first time to post ive been on yalls sight more times than i can count. Sorry about the length.Keep it short from here out.

Welcome to the board.
I don't know the answer, but more info might help whoever does. What year is the truck? Do you have any pictures of the option label?

Re: Super or not so Super
Thanks . The truck is a 71 swb. Its a lot more together than i would have liked. I dont have any pics at the moment but will after sun. The original motor was pulled and a 454 took its place. The truck has been stripped of upper and lower moldings and does not have fact. tilt or tach. All and all I was looking for more of a builder but the truck has all original metal and is straight and solid.

Re: Super or not so Super
67 - 70, the package was called CST, in 71, they chainged the same option to Cheyenne. Many SPIDs were still typed out as CST... much like many SPIDs said 396 engine in 70 - 72, even though they never built another 396 after oct of 69.
Now, IF it is a SUPER... then there would be an additional code in there... Y something or another... I can't remember it off the top of my head. So from what you are saying... it IS a Cheyenne... but might not be a super. |

Re: Super or not so Super
The Cheyenne Super did not necessarily have a tilt or tach-- many were big blocks but not all.
Sounds like a cool truck, but i wouldnt get too roped into the "Cheyenne Super" BS if the truck has a stripped body and a 454. It sounds like the victim of a "semi-custom" paint job or something. A 454 can run great, but its not a 400 (or 402, or 396) ---- so in my mind, a 454 is not a positive if the truck is being advertised as a "Super" --- Now, i will say that there are a lot of trucks out there that look great with no chrome, but the Cheyenne Super thing puts it in resto or at the least resto-mod territory,. The owner should not ask a premium for the "Super" thing at all if half the things that made it a Super are gone is all i'm sayin ---- but if its a fair price for a nice truck otherwise, let your heart be your guide.

Re: Super or not so Super
It could say Custom Sport Truck on the SPID in`71 and be a Cheyenne. The code is the numbers on line with the option.I suppose it could also be a "Super".Does it still have the factory woodgrain dash bezel or glovebox trim?Has the seat been recovered or is it original houndstooth?
