Bench seat cover reupholstery
I just recived a new black houndstooth bench seat cover for my 71.
I've been searching here with no luck for a forum on - "How To rebuild/reupholster a stock bench seat"? Who here has done it. And what tricks to help in the process. The foam in my bench is still firm and in great shape. other than hog ring plyer's and 150 hog rings what's needed to do a great job?

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
I just bought a "fix up" kit or what ever its called from LMC with new upper foam, and built up the lower piece using tape/foam from micheals. As far as re-upholstery, I found a custom shop in Vegas that did a pretty good job on it for about $150 bucks using all new vynil/fabric.
Sorry I couldnt be more help. Upholstery is one of the few things that I still leave up to someone else.

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
Use spray glue. Turn your new cover inside out. that helps alot too. Some good 3m spray glue. Start at the top and slowly work your way to the bottom. Or front to back. Its not hard, just takes a while to get a nice look with no waves or folds.

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
a hair dryer comes in handy to help strech and fit the covers in the corners and sides

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
Check with Classic Parts of America, they offer the cover and I think all the rest of the supplies.
I think would be a great candidate for a new FAQ... especially since I'm picking up my original '71 bench this weekend.

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
spray glue really isn't necessary. i've now done a few of these repop covers with great results. set it in the sun and look out for sharp edges on your frame. sometimes good to slip some chipboard on the sharp edge.
I also think Brothers has a tech write-up on their website. try here: http://www.brotherstrucks.com/techar...20INSTALLATION

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
Let the cover sit in the sun for a while and that helps smooth out the creases before you install it.

Re: Bench seat cover reupholstery
leddzepp is right, if you let the cover sit in the hot sun for a while it will certainly go on a lot easier.
Chad, Take good notes on this, I'll be doing my seat in a couple weeks!
