which power steering pump to use on a 68???
i bought a power steering pump off of a 78 caprice thinkinking it would work on my 68 c10. the truck has a crate engine in it. but for some reason the brackets and pump wont go in there.. nowhere for the bolts to go..
is it possible that there are two different powere steering pumps for a sbc, maybe one for a car and one for a truck.. let me know what you guys are rumnning on yours, and where you are getting them |

A pump on a 78 bolts to the waterpump. You can use it as long as you are using long pump stuff on the rest. If you still have a short pump & short pump style acc, you will need an older powersteering pump as well...

Re: which power steering pump to use on a 68???
I ran into this issue recently when changing from the '80's 305 that was in my truck to a '70's 350 based 383 stroker motor. The 305 has different brackets and additional mounting holes on the heads. At some point they also change from the old flange style hoses to the newer o-ring style. After getting a 70's ps pump and brackets, then a new ps pulley...and it still wasn't hooking up to the ps box or lining up with the w/p....I got mad and bought a new ps box and some March brackets and pulleys.

Re: which power steering pump to use on a 68???
I bought a pump for a '70 Camaro because thats the brackets I had, but when I mounted it with the pulley it didn't line up with my other stuff. The March custom series serpentine bracket and pulley set cost $343, but also included ones for the alternator.
Does the pump have a press on pulley or is it the keyway style? If it's a press on, you may be better off getting something off an earlier car. When you say know where for the bolts to go...where are they supposed to go?
