Evolution of our trucks...
I've been a member since June, 2001. In that time, I've seen our trucks transition from something to drive and work on and enjoy, to the point that they have achieved a cult status and collectibility. We've seen old posts with trucks that were the pride of their owners and others that were also owned with pride, but also with some duct tape, bondo and other such "stuff" as may have been applied by a previous owner or owners. The posts that are here of builds show the direction that we have taken and I'm proud to be part of the movement, even though my pride and joy is less tangible at this minute.
We've seen parts availability flourish and we're seeing an evolution in those parts, too. Kinda like when Danchuk came on board with the Tri-5's, is what I'm thinking. Better quality and better fit is around the bend. We're making our mark in the automotive world!! God, I love this website!!

The workmanship of many of the trucks now borders on street rod fanatacism (in a good way)
This board is cool in that resto. guys and hot rodders alike get along like ebony and ivory.

When I was building my K10 there was pretty much nothing on the market for these trucks aside from rockers and corners (and they didn't fit to well). Oh, you could also buy a tailgate for $100 that wasn't good for anything except holding paint. I think my build was going on about the time all the NOS parts were really drying up (or at least unavailable from the Chevy Dealer) and before the aftermarket really started kicking in. I'm glad to see their popularity picking up as it seems to help fuel the aftermarkets desire to keep building us what we need! Things definitly are changing in the market every single day. Lets just hope things continue to get better. I also agree that this site has helped me through many a tough situation.

The best part about this board is the diversity - everything from guys like me with a complete POS doing a 'slow build' through show and race trucks. Pretty cool group of folks all around!

As our trucks and the hobby surrounding them has evolved, so has the "board". When I joined, I did so to learn more about them. Honestly, until I bought one for my youngest son (then 16), I still had no real feelings for them. I recall when the body style was new, in late '66. The wheel covers were "funny" and didn't look very truck-like. The trucks were round, when we were used to squareish trucks. They were a large departure from what we knew. They were becoming car-like. Trucks were becoming second vehicles in the family and at the same time they were more main stream.
The board evolved, too. From my first opportunity to delve into the world of '67-72's, I have learned. For me, 1969 was a remarkable year. I was finishing a tour on the island of Taiwan. I was PCSing to Arizona. I went TDY to Bien Hoa, RVN. For my truck to be a '69, is just icing on the cake. It's so appropriate. I hate that I don't have a history with it prior to my purchasing it. But, that's life. The link is good. The website and the board members are better.

As stated these trucks have always enjoyed immense popularity. A step up from the utilitarian trucks of prior years. They became more civilized with smoother lines and more comfort and appearance options. Fit right in on the ranch or at the country club. In my opinion one of the all time sharpest trucks ever built was a black 72 super all trimmed out and shined to the nines. Any size engine/trans combo will fit in them and just about any part you could need for one is available now or will soon be. They look great stock, dropped or lifted. No trim or all the trim.
We are fortunate to have these forums to share information and the joy of owning these trucks. It's sort of like the world's largest GM truck club with members from all around the world. And we get to go into many garages and shops through build threads and garage pics. These 67-72 forums are probably better than most magazines considering the abundance of pics daily, aftermarket parts review, classified ads, tech articles, truck show listings and on and on, not to mention getting to know so many fellow truck enthusiasts.

Our years turns heads quicker than others. And I agree how much the board has grown. One thing I've learned is try and do alot of the work yourself. Change,add or even take some stuff off and make it your own. Just try to have fun!!!!

I agree - not to turn this thread into a lovefest, but without this site I never would have even tried to do a lot of the stuff I've done to my trucks.* But that goes without saying.* There isn't a doubt in my mind that these are the prettiest pickups ever built to date.* Engineering wise, I don't think there's anything unique except, the amazing amount of drive trains that you can use in them.* They just have that aura about them that all true classics have, that feeling you get when you look at them.* I am constantly looking for them when I'm driving, and can spot them quite a ways away, because the are very distinguishable.* All I can say is that my '67 has found it's last home, at least while I'm alive.

I was a die-hard f-body guy and built a supercharged z28 that I drag raced. One of the guys I raced with picked up a Blazer and immediately blew the engine. It sat in front of his house for a year and eventually I made him a stupid offer on it and he stupidly accepted... lol (thanks, Jeff!) I found this board and caught the bug. Sold the Z28, sold my Z06 (ouch...) and now the hook is set deep. This board is by far the best I've found and the knowledge and skills of the members is great. On most boards if a newby asks a question that's been answered before, they're slammed. On this board, folks will just answer the questions. Sweet. I love it...

I think the comments offered are great, and show the spirit of the board to be one of cammeraderie and friendship. I consider many of you to be friends, even though we may have never met "formally". The help that is asked for and that which is offered is great. To read a post from a newbie, who is obviously much younger than I am, tells me we are continuing to appeal to the young folks. To diss a newbie who has asked a question that may have been answered many, many times, would be wrong. I have belonged to other sites that didn't care who you were, your question was crap and their assistance was appropriately worthy.
Not so here. This site is the best, and you guys prove it day in and day out....all over the world!!

My love for these trucks has been with me as long as I can remember. My dad has a friend named Kenny, I called him uncle as far back as I can remember. When I was very small, some of my first memories in fact, Kenny had a orange 71 cheyanne super short bed fleet side 4x4. I always loved that truck. When I was 13 or 14 dad said he would buy me my first truck and asked me what I wanted I simply said a 67-72 chevy. Around that same time a man named Lehi rented out dads old trailer house and had a 67 SWB stepside 2wd it was white and beat up and SUPER COOL.
After searching for a 67-72 for a long time I told dad I wanted one simular to Lehis 67. 2 days before my 15th birthday dad brought home a beutiful 69 short stepside 2wd with a 250 I6. Dad and I spent the next year cleaning up the truck finding wheels (hurricane mags like the general lee) AND swapping in a 350 from a 79 GMC. After that I gathered up every free or cheap 67-73 truck I could find. I tried to keep up with fixing up my old truck for a long time on part time minimum wage funding. After a while I thought it was hopeless and sorta gave up my obsession and sold of or traded all my trucks. Now Im back into it stronger than ever. Ill never give them up again. |

This site has been great for all the unanswered question that wouldnt have been answered by anywhere else. I would have never believed that a 73 to 87 front engine cradle and suspension would have fit under a 67 to 72. I dont believe I would have tried it. But you guy here that have tried it gave me the info of what to do and I did it! also got the P/S box and pump too. As far as me doing a frame off without this site...I have done it before. But the ideas of what others here have done to their truck...and technics used...I have applied to my truck.
