Re: Lowering Blocks

I think you would have a Market for them , More so if you made the u-bolt's available with them.............

I would do some research on what a kit like this Goes for to see what you may have to charge, That would be Your Best way of Knowing if it's Going to be Worth your Time.

Alum. Price is High at The Moment, Guess you got to factor that in Also............

Good Luck with the Project.

Re: Lowering Blocks

Most places sell the complete kit with hardware for $69. I remember seeing on online place making custom sized U-bolts for about $10 each plus shipping but I'd have to find the link. I thought about having the bolts made and then making my own blocks but never got around to it. I'll be following this thread to see what you come up with.

Re: Lowering Blocks

Here is a link to a supplier, but he only has 1.5" right now, said he dont know when he will get anything else back in. I would buy a 2". I got my bolts made locally for 2" and got the 1.5" just to get it done for right now.

Re: Lowering Blocks

The aluminum (6061 T-6) for a solid block is gonna cost more than most here are willing to pay. Already been down this road. Not meaning to sound like a know-it-all, just passing on some friendly advice.

Re: Lowering Blocks

They are available as a kit, distributed by Superior Automotive, including blocks, U-bolts and nuts.
The numbers are as follows:

1" kit - 13-1000 - 24.99

2" kit - 13-1030 - 27.99

3" kit - 13-1040 - 34.99

Uhm, yes.

I believe they work for both. If the axle is below the leafs its a 'lift' kit, if the axle is above the trailing arms its a lowering kit.

Re: Lowering Blocks

those listed above from AutoZone won't work on 67-72 trucks ... here are what lowering blocks for a trailing arm suspension look like ... notice there are only 2 U-Bolts .. not 4.

Re: Lowering Blocks

Hmm, do you suppose those kits use smaller bolts?
I'll have to run down there and take a closer look.

Re: Lowering Blocks

they don't mount any where close to the same highsteel ... they won't work on our trucks ... the ones you link to are basically made for mini-trucks and other small / narrow leaf spring applications.

Re: Lowering Blocks

Would roughly 60-70$ a set be out of line for aluminum blocks?? I'll have to check on my pricing for bigger aluminum. May be a little more for over 1". Just really liked the look of the aluminums i built for mine. thats why i started this thread

Re: Lowering Blocks

I forgot to add that i may look into custom blocks w/ pinion angle correction machined into the blocks for a clean look w/out having to stack shims w/ blocks.

People already buy the alum blocks that CPP sells so there is a market.

To be competitive, you'll have to beat CPP's prices, quality, or offer something as an advantage. Pinion adjustment would be an advantage if it were incorporated into the manufacture of the blocks.
