My Gen III
Well this is my Gen III for my 81 long bed, 1/2 ton....single cab...
Took me a couple days to get it all painted up... Get this...A stock Gen III plug wire has 980 ohms of resistance...I got some Jegs 8mm spiro wires..They measured 180 ohms of resistance..... man thats a huge increase in efficiency and a ton less work for the coil packs.... 2005 Gen III 5.3L Vortec with 37,000 miles...A/C will be rolling Electronic throttle body 145 amp Alternator...normally has 105 amp.. 4L80e will be behind it...Tranny is a 2005 too, has 27,000 miles on it. Rear end will be geared 4:11 I also have a Vortec 6.0L style engine cover for it...has bigger alternator opening and has vented side covers for the coil pack heat sinks.... Sorry 56K users Still alot more to go...but im getting closer...I have my motor, trans, wiring harness( custom length and fire wall plug and play setup) performance tuned computer and all my interior parts...just waiting for some sound deadning Last edited by hessian18; 04-27-2008 at 05:34 AM. |

Re: My Gen III
Thanks everyone, the build pics will keep coming as I get it done LOL
Well hopefully in June sometime.... Im still working on getting some other stuff together for the swap.. Quote:
Edit ** Still makes sense .980 and .180 LMAO !! haahaah had to re think about that one.. The truck had 81,000 original miles when I bought it...The owner was a customer at my shop's Uncle...he recently passed away...The truck is in killer shape..Been in California its whole life, was also built here in Socal... She could use some paint and has some small rust.....But im concentrating on the drive train, interior and power plant at the moment... The suspension has been all rebuilt in the front....Ball joints, bushings, tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm and draglink...Plus 4 new shocks... SO SO much better then before...The brakes where well maintained and in great shape.... Like I stated in the earlier post I have my seat, headliner, new sun visors and 95 % painted interior panels LOL sitting in my R/C room. The seat is charcoal grey along with the headliner.. Heres the truck.... Good ole six still runs strong.... I stripped the center caps and gave them some loving...I also hit the old white rims with some flat black paint....I had to do the grill too Sometime Im going to have my rims powdercoated so it will last and look better too !! It will stay black... Last edited by hessian18; 04-28-2008 at 06:21 AM. |

My truck is GUTTED...no dash...no gauge bezel...no carpet...and one seat belt LOL I have brand new black carpet, New seat and headliner....sunvisors..Black seat belts with chrome buckles (had blue plastic ) And im in the process of painting all the door panels dark grey.... Im also still working on painting all my steel in the cab metallic gray... heres a shot of the seat and headliner sitting in the hobby room.... Just a matter of time before I get it done.....Im also waiting on some sound deadning material from ebay... My stereo stuff is almost all complete too...just need a couple amps and some more component speakers.. Thanks everyone for looking...Your comments will keep me motivated !!!! Re: My Gen III
Dang! Awesome detail-job on that 5.3! And from the rest of your posts I'd say this truck is going to be a looker as well as a GO-er!
Curious; living in SoCal myself, where/what/who is a good source for GennIII's? Please don't suggest local wreaking yards 'cause most of those guys are out-of-this-world on prices. Planning a similar swap for my old '77 longbed/stepper and haven't even begun to look for the power plant as yet... any direction here? Thanks |

Thanks Dave for the compliments
I got this truck in a KILLER trade deal..... I setup a power assist steering unit in a sand rail for the truck.... This truck instantly brought back memories from young times...LOL even though im only 23... My Grandpa had a 77 with a long six...My Grandmother also had a 84 4 door dually with a 454 !! SO this truck HAD to stay with me LOL Its not going no where now..... Hopefully this project will done by the end of the year....Before my B-day..News years eve... |

Re: My Gen III
Cool. Sounds like you're hooked on The Old Iron too! And talkin' 'bout long-sixes... have had a 292cid in my old '77 since 1990 and with Clifford header and single barrel Rochester, she pulled uphill like a small V-8, towing a bike trailer PLUS a full-size camper in-bed to boot... just a great big old desert beater! Been a darned good motor but it's about near the end of it's life and am finally ready for some "GenIII POWAH!"
Anybody interested in an old worn-out straight-six? lol! P.S. let's see some pics of that power-assist steering! (please?) Quote:

Re: My Gen III
Oh, btw....I might be interest in your 6 cyl intake and ps brackets. PM me if you are looking to let them go as I just ran across a marine 250 that may wind up in my 72" C20 that has a near dead 350. For some odd reason, I always wanted to build a straight 6.
