Wiring/Alternator Question
I had to replace my alternator yesterday (unfortunately I got the wrong one, so I have to replace it again today) and I made a stupid stupid mistake.
Red Wire I know where it goes. Black wire, I know where it goes. I have two other wires that plug in to the back. One is yellow, one is bluish-green. I would suspect that they aren't the original colors, but can't hurt to ask. I -thought- I wrote down "Yellow on top, Green on bottom" but then it was raining and the paper fell in the mud and I stepped on it, so I can't read it. I may have wrote down "Green on top, Yellow on bottom" So now I am utterly confused. And by "top" I mean when the alternator is mounted correctly. So any help? Suggestions? How do I know if they are in correctly? or wrongly? 1970 C-10 with 350 crate motor. |

Re: Wiring/Alternator Question
Maybe this will help if the colors have been changed.

Re: Wiring/Alternator Question
Thanks for the link - thought it would help, but not really.
Can anyone tell me what the two ports on the back of the alternator are for? (the two tabbed slots for the two wires I mean). I switched the wires and nothing -seems- to be affected, but that can't be right, right? The alternator reads R and F for each of the places for the two wires... |

Re: Wiring/Alternator Question
On the F (field) wire you want 12v with the ign sw on. dark blue
On your voltage reg the brown wire will have 12v with ign on Red wire hot all the time. The field wire regulates how much the alternator puts out. If you put a 12v jumper wire from your battery to the field terminal on the alt. it should go to full output. (for test purposes) Not sure about the R post.
