Popular Red color
I've narrowed the paint color down to Red or Blue (yeah, I'm pretty conservative on this).
I've searched and seen pics of "Torch Red" and "Viper Red". Is Torch a GM color? Any other specific reds you recommend? Like most everyone else, looking for a real bright red... |

Re: Popular Red color
From what I've heard, Viper red is pretty expensive to do because it's 3 stage, (if I remember right) it is a cool color and definitly bright. I saw a truck at the local weekly show that started out as a Ferrari red, they added someting to it and it came out super bright (sorry for the lack of info). I will see him this weekend and I'll ask him if you want more info, I'll even get you a photo.

Re: Popular Red color
I'm pretty sure Viper red is not a "regular red", it's more than a base\clear application, you just used a one stage.

Torch Red is a GM color. It came on Corvettes, trucks, Monte Carlos, and my new '68! Here are some pics of a few trucks:

Re: Popular Red color
Torch Red is a GM color.My`90 Blazer came that color. It has a slight hint of orange in it.Not at all orange, but you`d see it up against a pure red.It really jumps.
Another nice red is Porche Red.That was the red to get before there ever was then new fangled Vipers. It`s about the same color.

Re: Popular Red color
Mondo,
You might want to google southern polyurethanes. They are out of georgia and make 4 different reds including torch and viper. I have used their primers and they are great. I will use their base when I get to that point. Prices are not to bad either!! |

Re: Popular Red color
The red 69 in the pics. is my old truck when i had it at Good Guys Dallas. It is the same color as See 10's truck. It is called med. red in some books and light red in others. The paint codes are 514 and 544 red. See 10's code would be different because of the white top. In fact my truck had a white top originally. 514 and 544 are the same colors. I call it red-orange. Cool color.
I do like the torch red color. I have a truck i bought that is a viper red. I was told it is real close to torch red. Hope this helps.

Re: Popular Red color
Victory red is also a popular color. Its what my truck was painted (see sig.). Awesome when clean and polished. Don't know if it is more or less expensive than the other reds though.

Re: Popular Red color
I think Guards has a bit more orange than some of the others, but it does look great on Porsches!
Victory red is a nice one as cwilli84 mentioned. The following pic shows Victory on the left vs. Viper in the right. Viper is definately more pink. I'd like to see how Victory compares to torch. Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 05-03-2008 at 01:28 AM. |

Re: Popular Red color
Thanks guys,
Took the 67 in today, should be ready at the end of the month. I'm shaving marker lights/fuel cap and using those combo headlights/turn signals (will fill where turn signals went). Also putting in those one piece - no triangle windows. I"ll still have the interior to do and will be on rally's for a while. Oh... and the color.... Torch Red.... though you can't go wrong with any of those mentioned. thanks again Last edited by Mondo; 05-04-2008 at 12:44 AM. |
