shortbed chop

Has anybody tried to cut down a long stepside?It dosent look too hard,but would like to hear from somebody with some experiance.

I would just try to find another bed. I think they are the same for a number of years, with the fenders being the only thing changing.

After the frame is shortened, you could do it, but if your fenders and steps are in good shape, you can get the bedsides and all from a 73-87, and moutn your fenders and steps to it with very little mods. A lot less heat welding than trying to cut and repatch a single wall bedside backtogether.

Long steps have their own following. If yours is in good shape, you may be able to barter it out for a shortbed.
