Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
Ok, so I'm a retard. I lost my keys 3 years ago. ALL of them, silverado, C-10, Jena's car, apartment, work, the whole shebang. Well, I was smart and had copies of all of them...
Was down in GA this weekend... packed the car to leave, 20 mins. later I can't find my keys (I had used them 20 mins. earlier to get into the car!). After tearing apart her car and apartment (which is almost empty from moving) the keys are nowhere to be found. I only walked one way to get to the car and they keys weren't there either, plus they have a big orange clemson key strap thingy on them so I can find them easier when I lose them So here's the extra retard part, I never made a spare set of keys for the 67 after I lost the first set 3 years ago. I do have an extra ign. key for some reason, but not door... soooo.... ummmm.... are these trucks easy to get into? Any tricks that won't tear my door or window seal up?

That's b/c they are illegal in most states these days. But as was said before, there are PLENTY of ways to get into these trucks.

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
I've used the dull blade method.
And, the barbarians around here also push real hard on the back side of the wing window and force it open "backwards." After that happens, it's a PITA to get it back past the weather stripping. More time consuming than difficult. I guess we've purty much had our auto burglary lessons for the day.

I've seen my pop open up vent widows with two spoons....Yes really! Or you could break down and call a locksmith and save the cost of repairing any damage you may cause.

I think that I might be able to crawl thru the "vents" in my floor boards. I would just need a tetnus(sp?) shot afterwards.

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
Slide a(dull) blade in the the vent window and push up the vent lock. Then reach in and unlock the dude.
Or if you have traditional lock knobs, the coat hanger trick works pretty well from the top window frame.

My dad and I got into my grandpa's old truck by using a dull blade in the vent window after my dad locked the keys in it. Once the wing is open you just have to reach in.

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
Unless 67's are different, these trucks only lock with a key from the outside. They won't lock with the inside knob when you shut the door. So, your keys should be somewhere besides inside the truck.
edit: Oops, they're locked in a car, not your truck. The wing window works, that's how I get into my GMC with shaved door handles if the battery is disconnected.

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
i have used the hold down wire on the master cylinder cap. stick it in through the rubber on the backside of the vent window and position it to push the vent window lever foward when you twist it. sounds crazy but i have done it numerous times..... hope this helps.

Go with a local wrecking co., the local cops or AAA. They should all be able to get in. Or just call Onstar
Boy, what an inopportune time for a typo

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
Just call a locksmith. It will cost you about $40 and you will probably get a new key in the deal. If you talk to him real nice he might hook you up with a "slim jim" or apparatus of that kind. Cool dog! Do you realize he has a mustache?

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
On a somewhat related subject I once locked myself into my truck. I had just installed my one piece windows along with all the mechanisms inside the doors so I decided Id sit in the truck to see how I liked it. I made sure I had my keys in my pocket, rolled up the windows and closed the doors. The problem was that I had never installed the inside door handles or the window crank. I could start and drive the truck no problem but I just couldnt get out. I waited for damn near an hour before a neighbor walked by and I was able to get his attention and ask him to open the door from the outside. He thought it was the funniest thing in the world but I was slightly less amused.

Re: Are these trucks, easy to ummm...get into?
It might help to unlock it if you knew how the lock mechanism works. I just had mine out to place gaskets on them. Basically its an "L" shaped braket behind the keylock that in turn moves a "U" shaped braket which moves the door lock up and down...
If you can make some sort of hook that will fit betwen the window and the frame and grab the "U" shaped bracket, you may be able to lift it up to unlock it... Sort of like this... (sorry, don't have pics) the "L" being the keylock arm and the bracket is the mechanism that slides up and down... L ] |
