Be safe guys!

Just over the weekend a friend of the family lost his mom due to drinking and driving. Sad part about it was, she was the one drinking and driving.

At about 3:30am after leaving a party she was going the wrong way up an on ramp and hit head on with another car. The passengers in the other car were a pregnant soldier (stationed in CA) and her b/f. She was killed at the scene and her b/f is in ciritical condition.

I know we all hear about don't let friends drink and how many times have we heard "I'm ok to drive..." or even said it ourselves.... What would I do in a situation like that???

Just something to think about...

Don

Re: Be safe guys!

I was 7yrs old and watched my friend and his father get killed by a Drunk driver leaving a company party. They were on a motorcycle right behind us,as we pulled out, I turned to wave and BAMM, they got run over by a guy in a blue truck.
My wife's father is a drunk,he use to go pick kids up from school drunk! AND NOONE WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT....not even our "SUPERCOPS" here!!!!

I dont have time for drunk drivers. If I see one, I am on the phone with the local police/CHP. I have kids, and GOD help someone that crashes into me or mine.

I feel bad for the TWO OTHER people in your situation,my heart goes out to them and their loved ones, and your buddy, but I DON'T NOT feel bad for your buddies mom. Sorry, but thats the way I feel.

Oh I agree, this wasn't a thread to morn her as I don't feel sorry for her that she died at the scene. I feel really sorry for the couple she hit and the families on both sides that now have to deal with this.

My point was if you are drinking, take another second to really think about what you are doing if you think about driving and if you are somewhere and have a friend or see someone who has been drinking either thinking about or in the car driving, stop them, somehow. Take thier keys, disable thier car, call the cops... something...

Too many people think it won't happen to them and think that it is someone else's problem until they get thier lives torn apart from something like this. Until people realize that they are responsible for thier own actions it is up to others to keep an eye out for it. I know that is b******* that we have to look out for them (they should have NEVER been behind the wheel to begin with), but we might be protecting someone we love and care about if we act upon it.

I think this thread would be a "sobering" reminder that would be good in the "General Discussion" forum also.

Re: Be safe guys!

Yet two more innocent lives lost to stupidity. I don't DD and if I see someone I call the PD, the folks at that "party" should all be hauled in and questioned as to why the DRUNK left under her own power, and who served her. An unborn baby!! How does this crap happen?! I have lost too many friends and family to DD (never the drunk, mind you). DD need to be dealt with on site, period. Just because no one died today or the last 30 times before does not mean it won't, this story is the same story told time and time again by different people all over the world, yet it doesn't stop. People die every day from DD, makes me want to vommit!

My wife and I personally believe that they (the DA and victims family) will try and hang someone for this and we think it will be the people who were throwing the party and serving the booze. They are making it harder for bartenders and people who throw parties to get away with serving someone too much and then allowing them to leave. People are being made to be accountable for thier actions.

Hat's off to you Mickey D!
I make it a point to call on those drunk driving MFers when I see them.
Especially after my grandfather was t-boned in AZ, he lived but still has problems, it detached the retina in one eye making him blind. I feel for you MrBeast, I don't know personally, but after family going through it I understand what a huge impact on your quality of life it has.

Re: Be safe guys!

I work overnights at Walmart. Friday and Saturday nights I see entirely too many people stumbling in drunk. Now, the Walmart in my town is far enough away from anything "party" related that anyone coming in has obviously driven in.

Against company policy, I carry my cell phone out on the floor. Why? Because it's my watch and also to call all the drunks in to the police. It's gotten to the point that I show up on the non-emergency police line's caller ID now and all they ask when they answer is if we'll be able to stall them in the store for (insert arrival time for the officer here) minutes and a brief description of the drunks.

I've personally been responsible for the police catching 27 drunk drivers in the last year alone. And that doesn't count the ones that get out of the parking lot before a patrol officer can get there.

And trust me, you drive drunk in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and I see you, I WILL call on your @$$!!

I'm not worried about someone coming back on me for narking on them. I've already lost a loved one to DUI stupidity. If there's anything I can do to prevent it happening again, I'm going to do it. Hell, I was on lunch once and boxed some idiot in so the cops could get there. He was yelling and cussing at me until I told him to trust me that the cops would be one HELL of a lot easier on him than I would if he ran into/over someone I knew...

This is the root of how we "FIX" the world we live in, we are not random bits of dust floating aimlessly in the sea of life, we ALL have a responsibility to any other living being. Oh look at that drunk, OH WELL NOT MY PROBLEM is a cop-out, if not you then who, probably some other random human down the road, but instead of a traffic stop it could be a fatal head on. We just lost a dad here in AZ to a drunk, dude's on his way to work early, and BAM, now his 2YO daughter will never know her dad, and why, some j@ck@$$ decided he was way more important than the other particles of dust floating around him at the time. Should DUI or DD be punishable by death? Well, lets look at it, you beat someone stupid with a bat, Attempted murder manslaughter, but you drive a 4-5K LB vehicle drunk, whatd ya get, "A SLAP ON THE WRIST" only if you hit or kill someone do they charge you with vehicular manslaughter or attempted, 6 years in jail for murdering someone, that's it, it is no wonder no one does anything the laws are lax on DD, DUI, etc. I'll do my part MickeyD you do yours, and hopefully everyone that reads this will do their part to make our world a safer place to live. One person lost to this sensless action is too many.

Re: Be safe guys!

the part that sucks, is when you are in pursuit of a drunk driver, who just commited a hit and run, have the police on the phone, describing the driver, the car, lic plate number, direction or travel, rate of speed...
and the cop on the other end of the line tells you to stop following and they can't do anything untill the VICTOM of the hit and run calls it in.
this happened to me 3 weeks ago, and I went ape sh!t on the cop that answered the phone.
I've wanted to do up a thread on this for 3 weeks now... but I am still too pissed to type it out without going too far.

Mickey_D... You are a hero to MANY people... and in a non gay way... you are to me too. My hat's off to you... keep up the good work.

Andy I hear ya.A number of years ago I volunteered to work New Years day.(I drive a gasoline tanker) I waited to leave until 5:00am thinking the drunks would be passed out & off the road by then, boy was I wrong! I met a little car going the wrong way on the freeway. He was going south in the fast lane while I was going north in the slow lane.We wizzed by each other just slick as could be.Scared the crap outta me! That was in the days when only rich people had cell phones the size of a cooler so I got off the freeway found a phone booth, called 911 & told them about a wrong way driver. All the dispatcher wanted was a license plate & description of the car! I lost it & started yelling "FOR GODS SAKE LADY IT"S THE ONLY CAR GOING THE WRONG WAY ON THE FREEWAY! & IF NOT ARREST EVERYONE YOU FIND THAT IS!" & hung up. My foot was shaking so bad I couldn't hardly hold the throttle down after that.I never heard about a wreck so I assume they made it.In 28 years of driving I have called in countless drunk drivers, especially when I was driving nights.

When will people learn..... I don't understand the fascination of DD. If you have a drink, don't drive, it's that SIMPLE!!!!!!!!

My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to both families involved in this tragedy.

What a chilling news article... that will make you rethink DD.

Re: Be safe guys!

21Oct of 2000 I was in a car accident that was caused by a drug dealer who got into his own product and got on the road. He turned his car sideways in front of me on I-90 just outside of Bozeman Montana, as a result I had to have 87 stitches co close my face back up, followed by 15 hours of reconstructive surgery to the front of my face. I now have a titanium plate and 32 screws in my face, and a scar that it took 109 staples to close up going over the top of my head ear to ear.

The pain from the accident has never gone away, I will live the rest of my life in terrible pain due to it, what is worse I had a stellar navy career going that went down the tubes like that with the accident. I was actually changing duty stations headed for Whidbey Island Washington when it happened.

I really hate to hear of stories like this, when I was driving truck over the road I constantly called the cops where ever I was when I saw a vehicle that seemed to be a DUI, to my knowledge my actions have resulted in about 6 arrests.

The only thing, and I do mean the only thing in that wreck that saved my life was that Chevy truck. It was a 98 Chevy Z71 Silverado, leather, changer, all of the goodies, dolled up really nice, I had it for 3 days. I paid 29,000.00 for it, I had been saving since the day I joined the Navy to get a truck like that.

The guy who caused the accident turned out to be an illegal alien, he was deported, I had no means by in which to recoup my losses. His insurance paid out 25,000.00, 1/3 of that went to my lawyer. The rest vaporised in costs incurred while dealing with all of the medical end, luckily the Navy stepped in and paid my Medical bills.

Re: Be safe guys!

Home on lunch and thought I'd pop in and let you all know that another one went down tonight. He used to work the 2nd shift at my Walmart, until they got sick of him coming in working drunk and canned his silly ass. Now he just comes in to buy his booze there.

I was out on break and saw him stumble into the store. I've got to hand it to the local PD, they responded with two patrol cars to nab him and tow his car. This is his third offense and apparently he sideswiped a car (very lightly, but still) on the way over - right in front of a gas station that has 24 hour surveillance that covers the street.

The guy ain't too bright in the first place for the hit and run, but to compound his stupidity with a 3rd strike DUI just goes to show that he ain't all there.

Oh, well. Another one down. Only a couple hundred thousand left to go...

Where I work (til the wee hours) we get a lot of drunks come in....we will take our time waiting on them and call the local sheriff's department. I couldn't even begin to count how many they have hauled away since I have been there. The deputies come in for free coffee, and they are always just a quick phone call away.

Well it's offical. "They" have just issued an offical inquiry into the accident, which means they will want to know where she was, who served her... yada, yada, yada... (I have ideas, but I won't say who until they are done investagating)
