I installed a mini tach.

I was looking for something else but I found a mini tach instead in the garage. I hope it doesn't look like too much rice.

Re: I installed a mini tach.

My question would be is why not use the factory tach? It looks like there is one in the picture?

Re: I installed a mini tach.

If it's like mine... it would only run to 2,500 rpm and then freeze. I added a sunpro tach until I have the time to pull the dash and figure out what's wrong with the guage.

Now as far as the painted horn button... a little rice action (painted interiors) going on. Just kidding!

Re: I installed a mini tach.

Factory tach works but it's off by 1400 rpm or so. Painted horn button was PO work.

What size engine is in the truck and do you have a 50 or 60 grand factory tach.

Re: I installed a mini tach.

the factory truck ones only went to 5 grand.
I wouldn't exactly call that a Mini tach either... a mini would almost fit in the ACC guage holes on the bottom of your inst panel.

Re: I installed a mini tach.

I opted to go with one installed in the gauge hole-
I had to cut out one line of the printed circuit but it is a ground line and I was able to just put a screw in the other side to re-ground it, hopefully you can see it in the pic.

Re: I installed a mini tach.

Did not intend to hijack this thread but I figured we are talking tach's so it would be ok. The install of mine was really simple. It's a vdo "vision series" gauge, number 333155. It is programable for 4, 6 or 8 cylinders.

I took a hole saw and cut the plastic lens out, cut the front tin plate and the back tin plate. Then assembled it all and cut the printed circuit board where I needed to. The gauge mounts so simple right to the front bezel with a plastic screw on ring. As for wiring it, you need power, ground and the signal connections along with the dash light connections. I am going to tap off the ground screw for all the grounds, off the temperature gauge feed screw for power (need to figure out which side) and run a lead from my hei dist. for the signal. You can also use a signal from a alternator lead. The lights I will just tap into the wire for the dash lights on the harness.
