WD40 is a great hood alignment tool!!
My hood looked pretty good. The margins were all nice and the back near the cowl was a little high, but I could live with it. My biggest problem was the rear of the hood hitting the cowl ever so slightly when I raised it. I adjusted this till I was blue in the face but could not get it to stop hitting. My hinges are in decent shape with very little wabble. So I decided to lube the hinges with WD40. Man!! I slammed the hood so hard the first time I shut it after spraying the hinges my headlights and grille fell on the ground(LOL). Not really but it was amazing how easy it opens and shuts now It is actually to low near the cowl now. And I closed the gap between the cowl and hood.

Lubrication is a beautiful thing.............
But now that you have things "loosened" up, lube it with something better. WD-40 is more of a solvent than a lubricant. It will not last, it evaporates and you are right back where you were. White lithium grease (sprayable) will do what you need. Shoot some on your door hinges while you are at it. |

Sprayable white lithium grease solves so many problems it's not even funny! Good stuff!

Hmm, I'll get some tomorrow and try it on mine. They are newly blasted and painted, but not lubed.

Re: WD40 is a great hood alignment tool!!
hood hinges are almost always forgotten. I would spray it and work the hood real good.... like spray a whole can on them, then follow it with some brake clean solvent, then once that dries, hit it with the white grease.

Re: WD40 is a great hood alignment tool!!
I am sure there are better lubes than WD40 but that is all I had at the time. I will do it next time with White lithium. It would probably stay alot longer. I couldn't belive how many pivot points and surfaces each hinge had.
