67-72 full length headers in a 64?
Greetings from the 67-72 board. I have a quick question - will a set of 67-72 SBC Hooker comps fit a 64 with a small block in the stock location? Where are the problems if there are any?

I have the hooker full length super comps on my 64 and I had to modify the clutch linkage and z-bar to get them to work. The passenger side had no obstructions. I don't know if they are the same for the 67-72 but that is my experience with them and I know a couple others on here had to do the same thing.

Pretty much the same here. I don't know what brand my headers are, but the 350v8 and long tube headers both came out of a 72 C10 and went into my 64 C10. Same clutch z-bar issue, had to move one leg closer to block. The headers just barely clear the frame at/near the collector end, but they clear enough.
As for "stock" location, I am not sure which of the two possible enging mount locations are considered stock. The 230L6 that came out was in the rear location, and the 350V8 mounted to same towers and same bell housing in same locations. |

P.S. My headers also cleared the stock 3-speed column-shift linkage. The Z-bar was the only issue.
Unless you want to count the crazy twisting around it took to get them in there. My headers would not go in from the top with engine already in place. We had to slip them up and in from under the truck. This was the only time I've ever done this operation, so I don't know if that is a common situation or not. |
