Disk Conversion

Anyone used these?

I am tempted. I know I could go down to the boneyard and pull a C10's front suspension out and swap it. I am just not up for that sort of project on this particular truck right now.

What year truck do you have? If you have drums, I don't think this kit will work. This is quoted from the eBay description: "These kits mount to your original spindle making installation a snap and use late model "GM" calipers for added clearance when running 14" wheels".

Correct me if I am wrong but spindles were not offered until 71'-72' and those were disk brakes. There's a number in the eBay add. I would call them and find out more about your particular setup. Good Luck.

This is to convert drum front brakes to disk, using original drum brake spindles...

If you ask me, just save up a few more hundred bucks, and get a whole disk conversion kit from ECE or CPP. I got mine from CPP, and everything went great, but knowing what I know now, I would have gone through ECE.

We were lucky. Paid $150.00 for a rear 5 lug drum axle and 5 lug disk spindles and rotors. Change over from 6 lug was not that bad. Now were changing brake parts, so far everything is going smooth. I have heard that the kit from ECE is very good as is all of there other parts.

Because you get new spindles, ball joint, dust covers,ect, ect. You get it all, and it's actual truck stuff. No salvage yard scrounging. For that price you can go to a junk yard and get a whole crossmember, and it is really not that hard to make the swap. You would have to run two different bolt patterns front and rear, and that means two spares (not to mention a goofy look)

I dunno about it.

Actually, I meant the difference between ECE and CPP? I've dealt with both of them.

I have a Caprice 9C1 rear end ready to go, with disks and ebrake.

Oh, sorry about that. For one, ECE make's their spindles right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. I don't know where CPP's are made, but ECE put's their name right on the side of them, and to me, that say's alot. The only issue I had with CPP's kit is that I had to redrill my dustsheilds, and the stainless brake line kit I got from them didn't fit. Another board member helped me out with that, but I guarantee you, ECE would have told you that up front, so yo didn't have to run around looking for odd -AN fittings. Other than that, no complaints.

I got my kit from GMC Paul's I got stock height spindles and the 6 lug kit all said and done 2 hour install and $475.00 good to go, fit good no complaints from me.

I've seen some kits like this before. In fact, I think CPP may sell one. Pay attention to the parts you'd have to use besides these brackets; Malibu and Chevelle parts. I'd be a little concerned about using car brake components up front on our trucks.

Go with ECE or find yourself a 73-87 front end.

The Chevelle uses a 5x4.75 pattern and the truck uses a 5x5 pattern so you will still need 2 spares and could not rotate them too easy. I believe the Caprice also uses the 5x5 pattern like the trucks.

I have gutted out two trucks to get my 5 lug set up. I dont even have 150.00 in all my stuff. My rear axles are 77...with the brakes and backing plates...and my whole front suspension is 87. I also used the 87 power steering box and pump.

The good thing about this is...if you buy it cheap enough...you can sell off parts and scrap the rest and get your money back.

Yes, I have done similar things. Right now, I am in the middle of more than four projects. Don't want another one.
