What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

Due to the server problems I could not access the site last night so my Sunday evening post had to wait. Fortunately the system is back up now.

I spent the weekend preparing for my daughter 16th birthday. I had a few last minute details to do in the yard that ended up taking a few hours. Saturday we had family over for food, fun and swimming. Unfortunately my daughter woke up sick, so my plan to surprise her had to be changed.

Instead of getting up early to go to the dealership to pick up her new car, she slept until noon. When she finally felt like getting up I had her open her present by looking at an email the sales rep had sent. After viewing the pic below she felt much better.

Sunday was spent cleaning up my pool area and washing cars.

What did you get done?

I scored a set of well used 235/75/15's and put them on the set of rallies I had. I bolted those to the '86, they're much better than the 31x10.5x15's that were on there. I also drank a lot of beer, and spent way to much money

I went to Dover for the race. Love him or hate him, Kyle Busch is the most dominant driver that I've ever seen. I happen to love him, so maybe my opinion is a little skewed...

Well after finding my carb issue earlier in the week.I woke Sat. with which dirction to go for repair. So in the one pic you see I spent money.Went the new route. And doing some cleaning, painting and adding shiney stuff.I have all the black pieces cleaned and repainted. Clean out the lifter valley, wasn't to bad for build up.Today I'm going to scrub the engine bay, frame, firewall ect. Then more paint.Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be done.I had also finished my gauge holder bracket thingy.

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

Sat, I went by Stoked Out to check on the progress of projects that will be debuted @ the Good Guys Colombus show. Once I got back home, I unloaded the 68 from the trailer to get set up for the LSx engine swap. I'm glad to report the 74's homemade AOL set-up & modified ECE hidden-hitch did their respective jobs as hoped. I hooked up the trailer & the rear squatted down.... I added a little bit of air to level it out & it worked great!

Sunday I went back out & started labeling & stripping all the various late model computer wiring from the LS drivetrain. Once it was all off, I had to remove 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts on the driver side head. One came out w/some persuasion, the other took a little heat along w/the persuasion.

So now I'm ready to drop the drivetrain in & start the mock-up on the motor-mount adapters (making my own).

Well it wasn't the weekend, but I figured I would report anyway.
Tuesday purchase a new 2008 Jeep Patriot. Currently it is getting 26.5mpg

Friday, I retruned the incorrect Tonneau cover for my Crew Cab and chopped into the Doug Thorely Headers to begin fitment.

Saturday I installed new seat foam and recovered the front seatback and bottom for my 91 CrewCab

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

i made the decision the this summers income is mostly going into the truck. Besides gas to get to work and back.
New front fenders, rockers left and right, cab corners left and right, and some patch panels for the bed. The bed will eventually be replaced with an un-touched clean one but for now this will work.

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

On Saturday, I replaced the power steering pump on my SWB, and on Sunday I fabricated a new steel fuel line from the fuel pump to carb on my LWB. I also started stripping the LWB truck down for the body shop. It went in this morning for a fresh coat of Cardinal red paint. I should see it back in about 2 weeks.

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

Drove my S-10 400 miles round trip to a car show Saturday, won “Best Truck” and the “Long Distance” award.

Things I learned along the way…………….

No stereo needed when you have a fresh 383 under the hood.
Stereo couldn’t be heard over the Magnaflow mufflers anyway.
Nice stereo gear will be removed and installed in my daily driver.
14 MPG is way more than I expected.
Very happy I upgraded to a 22 gallon tank.
Gas bill was worth every penny.

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

Went to my nieces graduation and party Friday and Saturday. Sunday I got my truck supported on jack stands. I finally got it high enough to crawl under it and see what's going on with my fuel delivery. Looks like the tank switch/valve have been completely bypassed. Good and bad there. Good because it saves me the trouble of doing it. Bad because there are a lot of seperate splices and a lot of mystery lines not connected to anything lol. I need to replace the rubber hoses since one has a break in it. I want to eliminate all problems that might happen in the future. Then I can dump some fuel in it and get it fired.

For the first time on this truck anyway, washed, waxed, polished and "repair painted" the 87, took all of sunday....fun stuff i say. Saturday bought some goodies like exhaust tips and a neon interior trim rope to put in the gauges for better illumination, works great...

Re: What did you get done? 06/02 Server out edition

This was not a good weekend, I got into something that I did not think I would have been doing.. I had a rocker on the blazer making come sounds last weekend, so I was going to look into it more on Sat. Well I pulled the valve cover and the rocker was lose, so I pulled it and the push rod to see it something was worng with it and nothing. So I did some thinking and said well I will pull the intake, what the hell. So I did and I had 2 lifters not coming all the way up on the cam, so I pulled them and they did not look right.. So I pulled all of them and the cam too. Take a look at the pics I have heard about this but never seen it before.. I only have 5k if that on the motor.. This has been a sucky day, now I have to have it running in two weeks for a big show. Well Lunati here I come...

It's the oil. Today's oil doesn't have the wear additives as in the past. The fine folks at the EPA no longer allow the good wear additives. Roller cams/lifters get by OK, flat tappet cams/lifters won't survive. I talked to Comp Cams prior to getting mine together. I now use their oil supplement or the GM brand with every oil change.

I hate to say it but you need to take that motor all the way down. My cam and lifters in the "old" motor took out the mains, the metal had to go somewhere.

A good friend of mine is a nationally known engine builder, he confirmed the oil situation. BTW, some folks will tell you to use Shell Rotella T motor oil, it no longer has the wear additives either. Use the one of the Engine Oil Supplements I mentioned.
