I designed it, a buddy of mine did the CAD work, and on here did the CNC machining, and I spent the hours sanding and polishing...I need to make some minor tweaks to the CAD file to clean up some loose ends but I'm pretty happy with the outcome...

I like it! How expensive to you think it will be to reproduce?? I have a feeling your gunna get hit with a bunch of people wanting that. You should offer it either polished or paintable or powdercoated black or something.

If I get enough interest I will mass produce a batch of them as a one time run. I could probably have them powder coated instead of polishing them, but I'd still have to do just as much sanding to remove the tooling marks and profile them so the cost would probably come out even.

I really like it and would want one if they are for sale. Mine would have to be polished.

I run Pro-E at work. The new cad-cam software is amazing. What I could do with our cnc at work. oh well, off limits to us non-union engineers.

I think you should market it. Seriously!

oh yeah, putting it into a vibratory tumbler. it will come out looking like chrome.

again, market it!

I used Pro-E at my previous job but the company I work for now uses Ideas, and they don't let the engineers use it....oh well!

My experience is aluminum doesn't do well in the tumblers for polishing, is there a special media I should be using?

The price would depend on how many people are interested and willing to commit. I'm figuring somewhere between $50-$75, depending on the total quantity, paintable versus polished/powder coated, and final unit cost for machine work. That would basically be paying me a little above minimum wage to sand and polish. I now understand why vendors charge so much for their polished aluminum products.

I don't do the CNC work, that is farmed out to Mekdad who is a member of this site.

Very nice! But I think you better be looking into a patient. You could make a killing off of that...even for the 73 to 87 crowd.

I would take one un-polished and do the work myself. I know it is tedious, but worth it.

That would look cool, but it would be pretty pricey for a piece of Aluminum that size and a CNC machine big enough to handle it

not as expensive as replacing a cut up dash, I think you would make a killing making both pieces for sure, if you could do a one piece put me on the list

Good call, I actually already applied for a patent, but I figured for the small volume it isn't worth the cost.

Just curious as to what unique method(s) are you claiming here is? I don't see anything patentable... it's just a machined part-- a nicely done one, but just a machined part nonetheless.

Who did the patent search? Who wrote the application? In addition to the USPTO fees, what did your submitter charge you? Would you recommend?

Re: Billet Radio Plate for cut dash...opinions?

I have used a vibratory tumbler with walnut sheels and a good dose of Mother's Power Metal polish.

dude, I think you have some customers here! nice clean design. period. I really like the hidden mounting screws. what size? #8 or #10 threads??

yep, I'm with Caminokid. you should think of applying for a patent...... at least get it in the process that way you would have proprietary rights.
