6 lug 73-87 rotors?

So, I am looking at CPP's dropped spindles for my 70 GMC... they list that their kit takes a 73-87 C10 rotor that's 6 lug?

They listed it as a heavy half? My local parts guy is going nuts. Anyone have a part number?

6 lug as stock? That don't sound right to me. I know there's light duty and heavy duty rotors but they're 5 lug. Maybe 6 lug is only sold as aftermarket?

I know I've seen "heavy half tons".

I also know they went back to six lug in the later trucks...

Re: 6 lug 73-87 rotors?

The heavy duty rotors are 1.25" across the turned section of the rotor. Most of the after market spindles are based on the 73-87 heavy duty brake.

GM did not make a 6 lug 73-87 rotor, but the after market did. I bought McGoughy rotors for my truck, so I have 73-87 HD 6 lug rotors!

GMC Pauls has them as well as other site venders. Take a look at our venders, you might find one near by.

The only 73 to 87's that had 6 lugs were the 4X4's. I have a set of those 4X4 rims on my 69 step.

Aftermarket only! Look at ECE, CPP or the other drop spindle manufacturers of 63-70 6-lug kits.

Re: 6 lug 73-87 rotors?

Re-read my post. (#4) I said after market.

GMC Pauls can get the 6 lug 73-87 2 wheel drive rotors. I have delt with GMC Pauls and recommend them.

ECE and CPP should also have them.

Your local parts store will NOT have them and not likely to be able to get them.

Re: 6 lug 73-87 rotors?

The 70's Heavy Half trucks were 5 lug also. There's a running debate on whether you can use the 6 lug 3/4 ton rotors from the 90's. The 3/4 tons with 7200# GVWR had 6 lugs a semi-floating 9.5" 14 bolt rearend and the 8600# GVWR trucks had 8 lugs with a full-floating 10.5" 14 both rearend. Get your parts man to lookup a '93 C2500 rotor and the computer/book will make you choose whether you want the 7200# or 8600# part. Maybe you can find somewhere that has it stock and measure it up.

Re: 6 lug 73-87 rotors?

People have said that the 6 lug rotor C2500 rotor will bolt to the '71 - 87 spindle, so I just did a quick cross reference for you on partsamerica.com and the 93 C2500 6 lug rotor and a 75 C-10 calls for the same part # wheel bearings, so they will bolt up. The thickness of the rotor and maybe the dia should be the only issues that you need to check out. It would be great if were that simple.

Re: 6 lug 73-87 rotors?

After a little more checking it seems the best price out there on the 7200# rotor is about $80 each which is about what ECE's costs...
