Serpentine Belt setup
OK building a motor for the 68 C10. I'm considering runing a Serpentine set up on it. However I'm not running Air conditioning.
I've been through several of the junk yards and it seems like everything I'm seeing has A/C on it. I'm not quite sure how it would work if I didn't run A/C. It looks like I would need the A/C compressor pulley to make the Belt run correctly. Anyone running this set up with out A/C? I would love to know what you pulled the set up off of and any pictures or advice you could give me would be great. Thanks..... |

Re: Serpentine Belt setup
The 90 ish v-6 and v-8 are the same. I have some plain jane work trucks at work that just run a big idler that bolts in where compressor fits. I am sure GM sells them if you have to call them. You need to drill one hole in pass. head to mount main bracket. Also upper hose works best off of same 90'syehicle. Take used one for pattern for sure. The 77 ish p/s box are o-ring style like the serp.p/s hose.Or you will have to make a special hose. I used a 78-87 sqare body p/s pressure line.It fits best with inner fender. The suburban p/s hoses would not fit corectly that i had. Hope this helps.

Re: Serpentine Belt setup
STP67-72 is correct- if you don't want the A/C compressor (yet)- trot on down to your local NAPA and get the "AC Delete Pully" for like 28 bucks and some change. Another thing you may need to consider is whether the donor truck has a smog pump down below the AC compressor. If it does- you'll need a idler pulley to take it's spot too. That one, however, is only available through the stealership for like 80 fricken dollars! (Go ahead- ask me how I know).

Re: Serpentine Belt setup
You do not need a delete pulley for the smog pump. With the proper length belt and routing it will work fine without.

Re: Serpentine Belt setup
I think NAPA sells an A/C compressor bypass? pulley. It is a pulley that bolts in place of the a/c compressor. I have installled a couple of these for customers who's compressor has locked up
