Re: Oil tube broke off

The last one I got was from the dealer, but it was an '86 block. It was a dirty beeyatch to get the old tube out. Had to pull the pan and try tapping it out, which worked partially. Then I ended up using a drill bit that was just a tad smaller than the hole the tube goes in and it grabbed the broken piece and spun it out of the block. I hope it isn't that bad for you as I probably just got really lucky.

I've used an "easy out" to get a couple out.
You might want to take a propane torch and heat the block a little bit also.

Decide when you are going to install the new tube, then put the tube in the freezer the night before.

Most auto supplies carry after market tubes & dipsticks.
You'll probably have to buy both of them, though.

Re: Oil tube broke off

Easy....drop the pan and tap it out from underneath....you can get a replacement at any O'Reilly's [or some dealers have the stock ones].

Re: Oil tube broke off

Mine had a little lip left to it, so I just popped ita couple times with a flat screwdriver and hammer, then grabbed it with a pair of vice-grips

Re: Oil tube broke off

I would avoid pulling the pan or heat.....try the easy out with some penetrating oil.

Re: Oil tube broke off

I use a large sheet metal bolt with a hex head. I screw the bolt in and then use claw hammer or similiar tool to pry it out. I have done several this way with no problems.

Never thought of that one Jim....not a bad idea actually. I'll have to try that next time...sure beats dropping the pan. Mine happened to coincide with a pan gasket change.

Re: Oil tube broke off

Thread a screw or bolt into it like Jim said, then put a small open-end wrench under the bolt head and tap the wrench head upward with a hammer.
