WTB chrome steering column
Guys as the title says But I would like a NON-tilt cloumn shifted for automatic one if there is such a thing. but if not a tlit will suffice. Also if anyone knows of a place I could get one that the stock steering wheel fits on or has one for sale. i would love to find one. Must be show quality thanks

Re: WTB chrome steering column
Are you looking for a factory column or an aftermarket?

Re: WTB chrome steering column
that really dosent matter I am guessing I probably have to have a factory one to get it to accept the factory steering wheel but an aftermarket one will work to

Re: WTB chrome steering column
How much are you looking to spend? I have a factory tilt column that I am rebuilding and was going to have it powder coated, but I could have it chromed instead. If you don't care whether it is tilt or not, it's probably not worth the extra cost to you.

Re: WTB chrome steering column
Yes, I'm replacing all the bearings, levers, seals and the turn signal switch. It will have the factory half moon plug and factory hazard button, not like most rebuilt columns out there. The only thing I don't have for it is the canceling cam, but those are readily available. It probably won't be done for at least a month though so if you want something sooner maybe someone else has one. Chrome plating is $150 alone so I'm looking to get $600 for it.

Re: WTB chrome steering column
yeah but the idiidit and the flaming river which our the only "retro-Fitted" chrome assemblys I have found they say the factory wheel will not mount up. they say you can use an 74-94 OE wheel which is weird to me because I just took that style off and put the original one back on with no mods required although I didnt have the horn button installed never tried it. anyone done this or seen it done with thechrome column with the factory wheel with the horn working?

Re: WTB chrome steering column
Yes these are all factory restored columns. If you look at those flaming river columns they do not have the dash seal or fire wall seal. Also upper hub is 1" longer.

Re: WTB chrome steering column
The Flaming River is new, not rebuilt and comes with a 2 yr warranty, and it is much better built than the originals.
The upper collar is 1/2" longer than original, but overall length is the same. The custom arms & levers are worth over $100 more than the original/repops, but you do have to spend $20 for the two rubber seals and the column is set up for easy install of the seals without disassembly---a nice touch. Hopefully this additional info will help you decide. |

QUOTE] in your opinion why is it better than a rebuilt factory column? kev you wouldnt happen to have a picture of one with the stock wheel on it would you? or anyone to that matter. The only thing that is holding me back kev is yours look so good that I am afraid I am going to kill it with the stock wheel....and if thats the case then I am gonna go ahead and get a tilt with a nice aftermarket wheel.

Re: WTB chrome steering column
Those are some of the nicest columns that I have seen. I have seen Kev's work and I would not hesitate to buy one from him.

Re: WTB chrome steering column
Here is a new Flaming River chrome & stainless tilt I have ready to go. The arms are really nice compared to others out there.
These are made especially for our trucks, not the generic universal model. $695 shipped ($25 less if you want to wait a month for another to be built). |

Re: WTB chrome steering column
ctucker: I can't get the scanned page to show. The FR is designed with new better materials. The difference is on the inside...stainless on the outside is nice too.
c10: Floor shifts are quite a bit cheaper...PM me so we don't sidetrack ctucker's thread. I am trying to just answer his questions & needs on here. |
