Need help with 69-70 grille problem
I purchased a supposedly new GM grille for a 69-70. He said it was new in the box and it was, but not a GM box like others i have seen. I got a decent price for it on evilbay, but nothing better than a few i saw that sold on there that were shown with the GM box. Is there a stamping i should/could look for to verify it's GM? ALso, there are some black marks that look like paint, but feel like scratches on two of the headlight areas. i test fit bezels and they won't cover. There are also areas where the black paint is not 100% within the recessed areas and around each of the stamped letters, there is haziness in the finish (some worse than others) For those who purchased new GM grilles, have you had these same issues? Trying to decide what to ask for (return/replace) and have my facts straight if i have to do a paypal claim. THanks in advance.

BTW, by decent price i mean less than the 899 some vendors are asking for new GM grilles, but this was by no means cheap.

Re: Need help with 69-70 grille problem
I would look for a GM PN on the grill as GM parts were identified with a PN. Should be a stamped number.

Re: Need help with 69-70 grille problem
I have had quite a few 69-70 factory GM grill's. And still have a real nice one that i am saving for my 69.
I do know that the factory paint is NOT perfect. And the headlight rings do have slight gaps from the grill. And i have owned the grill for about 17 years now. Factory stuff does not always fit as perfect as everyone thinks it does. Remember, these were mostly work trucks. Not show trucks like we make them.

Re: Need help with 69-70 grille problem
I'm almost 100% certain that's a GM grille. We still can not get approval to emboss CHEVROLET into the '69-'70 grille and as far as I know NO MFG is authorized yet as part of the GM Restoration program.
Although.....that finish isn't that hot Last edited by jb4short; 07-09-2008 at 07:32 AM. |

Re: Need help with 69-70 grille problem
Thanks for the info guys. I figured it was GM due to the stamped letters, but i am not happy with the finish for the price i paid.

I've never seen anodizing that rough. If you are building a show truck I'd think about sending it back unless you got it really cheap. The grille is the most expensive single exterior part on the truck usually and that's where it pays to pony up the dough if it's a show truck. My 2 cents.

Re: Need help with 69-70 grille problem
Fyi. I Checked Everywhere I Count Think Of To Get The Best Price On A New Grill For My 69. Finally Called My Local Pontiac Dealer Because He Has A Great Parts Guy. 2 Days Later A Brand New Gm Grill Was Delivered To My Shop For $525.00. He Says Call Him First, Gm Still Sells This Stuff And At Better Prices Than Aftermarket.
