factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Hi, I have the opportunity to buy a set of factory tow hooks and a original AM-FM radio from a 72 Chevy 4x4. I want these for my 72 that I'm restoring. How rare are these? They belong to a close family relation and neither one of us know the real value. So....I looking for help in determing value that is fair to both parties. thanks for any input.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Prices always vary, but typically working original Am/Fm radios go for $250-400. 72 extreme bend tow hooks can pull between $250 and $450 on any given day. These are my observations and should not be considered the norm.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
With the hooks it depends on if they are`72-only extreme bends or 69-72s.
Fair within family means lower yet not stealing.I`d say if`72-only $250,if 69-72 $150 and $150 for the radio. If he`s looking for the big bucks he should sell it to someone he doesn`t know.At least, that`s how I operate.I`m assuming this person didn`t buy them at current prices. If so,I`d give what they paid.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
No...he didn't buy them at market value. He got a whole truck for a song and a dance. He is just going to resale the truck to turn a buck. I do believe the hooks are the 72 only. Thanks for the info!

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Search the site to see the differences in the hooks as well as the radio. The hooks are easy to identify, but the radio is a little trickier. If it is a true truck am/fm, the antenna plugs in from the side not the bottom. The numbers should be tinted green not white.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Check out this site for the hooks. I've seen these pictures on the site before. Anybody know if this is a member? He has a sweet collection of hooks, even a set of rear hooks.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
It really sucks reading this thread for me. When i was 17 right after I bought my 72 I tore out the original radio and trashed it. I just didn't know what it was worth. DAMMMMMM!!!!

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Mint68, Thanks for the link. These hooks with no mistake are the 72 only. Now I'm wondering if the truck has the rear hooks. The link mentioned these hooks were only dealer installed, but the info label in the glove box shows them as factory installed???
The info label also shows the truck to have come with a AM-FM radio and it does match your description. Is there any thing else I would need off this truck to make the switch complete?, Antenna, wiring and etc. Thanks Again |

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
Make sure the radio works--it can cost up to $150. to fix it!! A non working am-fm is worth 1/2 the cost of a good working original. Also a lot of chrome pitting will hurt the value of the radio.

Re: factory tow hooks and AM-FM question
The tow hooks labeled "73-?" are 73-80. The 81-87 pickup and 81-91 Blazer & Suburban are thinner and have curvature where they mount to the frame.
