removing outside door handles

how the hell do you get them off? Do i have to take the whole latch assembly and all? only clip i see is way down in the door and i cant get my hands in there to get it off.

I had to remove the latch assembly to be able to gain access to the retainer clip so I could slide it out of the way and and remove the linkage rod between the handle and the latch. I'm going to have the outer door handles poder coated black then put them back on the suburban
