84 Fuel Filter location

I've been trying to locate the Fuel Filter on my truck with little luck (305), anyone happen to know off hand where it is and what the recommended replacement steps are?

Re: 84 Fuel Filter location

That question is pretty vague, depending on whether it's been converted to fuel injection, what brand carb is on it, etc. Without more information, I'm assuming it's bone stock with a q-jet carb. In that case, it's inside the larger hex head cavity just behind where the fuel line goes into the carb, I'll call it the "cannister" for lack of better words. You'll need a flare nut wrench to keep from rounding the fitting off on the line. Totally remove the line from the larger piece, then get a really big wrench and take that other piece out. There's a spring inside of there that you don't want to loose, you'll need it when re-assembled or the filter wont seal correctly. There's also a flat gasket that goes in behind the larger "cannister". Again I'm assuming a previous owner hasn't placed an "in-line" aftermarket filter somewhere.

Re: 84 Fuel Filter location

Yeah I looked and looked for one on my '80 (stock 305) and turns out it was partially hidden under the air cleaner. Its right on the front of the carb like babyjay said. Take his advice on the flare nut wrench...I learned the hard way.
