Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

If one of you nice people (running a Blazer tank) could give me a measurement from the bottom of the chassis to the bottom of the tank ??

My next purchase will be a rear tank....I would like the highest capacity with the most ground clearance.

What other tanks have you used ??

I like the old Mustang tank idea as well...I know the frame would have to modified for that (widened).

I would love to use the same tank on my customers '67, but it's kinda pricey....also was thinking of just building a custom one....

Re: Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

I don't have any measurement for you right now, but I'm building a '67 for a guy and we had bought a Blazer tank some time ago. Since the time the tank was bought the truck got lowered and then the tank was just too low. So the owner wanted me to section the Blazer tank. Had to take ~3" out of it....way too much work! Would have been better to just build a whole new one.

Re: Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

I have one in my truck for now. I can measure it tomorrow (Sunday).. It dose come down a bit but shouldn't be to much of a problem for me. You also have to cut the rear bed sill to clear the tank. So the bedwood would go on first then the tank would go in. Makes it harder to hook up I guess.

Re: Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

I want to get the tank and it's fumes out of the cab.

I also want a tank that will work on my truck with future plans of an adjustable suspension system.

Maybe something in the bed then. You can build something to protect it so if you throw something in there it can't spring a leak..

If you run a rear bumper I don't think it's visible (at least on 67-72's). With a rollpan and especially on steppers they hang too low.

Re: Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

I have a old beer keg I have consitered taking it to a friends shop and have him modify it.

However, my truck is a stepside, AND I plan to raise the bed floor. So I havent fully figured out what to do. I still may go with the keg with a square tank on the bottom. Basicaly I would cut the keg almost in half and have a square tank built and welded to the opening. This square tank would be sunk into the raised bed floor so it couldnt be seen. The sending unit and pickup would be in this bottom square tank.

Why? because the keg is only 15 gal, and I would most likely want to road trip once this truck is done.

Then again with the raised bed floor it may be easier to do a blazer tank and just raise it up along with the floor.

Re: Who is running a Blazer tank.....How low does it hang?

Ok.. It hangs down about 7 1/2" from the frame. It is about 8" off the ground with 4" drop springs and 245/60/15 tires.

Is the Blazer tank what most of the swap kits include?

That would be it. I think the only difference is the one they call the swap tank for the 63-66 comes with a 0-30 ohm sending unit (at least I think it is a 0-30 unit anyway). If you are going to run aftermarket gauges I would get the 0-90 ohm unit. There are a couple of pictures of the tank in my truck here http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ucks/?start=20 but they are not the greatest.

Don't throw away the specs after you make it Chief.... you may end up making another depending on the capacity.

I was thinking about fab'n one up that fits up snug in the frame-rails...up close to the under-side of the bed, and also have "wings" that wrap under the frame rails...for a little more capacity.....kinda like the oval-track oil-pan.

I would make it to except side, top, and mabey a rear fill ??

Fully baffled, with single/dual delivery ports either in the back, or passenger side front.

The above aluminum tank has one port located at the pass. front corner, straight shot to the stock fuel line/pump location.

I could make it even bigger if I remove the rear most small crossmember....after doing that, I would probalby box the rear of the frame, and/or run a low-pro receiver hitch.

Another thing to consider, a four-linked truck without a panhard bar, could utilize a larger tank as well. For know, it'll be made to clear the stock stuff...

Mmmm.. Bummer. With my truck being so low I'm probably going to have to fab something up as well.

Thanks for the post and pics.

Cool! Have pics or a photobucket(or similar)? I'm in the middle of a 5.3 swap as well - and hadn't even thought about an F-bod tank. Readily available and with an intank fuel inj. pump ready to go!

The '98 cars had metal tanks, if preferred over plastic.

When I bought my 64, the P/O had a Dodge van tank in the frame. It was totally square and fit in the frame rails.....it was a salvage yard item and had Dodge written on it in the typical yellow pen. Its long since been thrown in the dumpster........but, if you know where one is it mite work.
