Gas tank spilling when getting filled

When I fill the tank and the pump stops, gas flys out of the filler neck. Does anyone have any tips for this??

and by flys out i mean about a cup of gas getting all over the place.

I do a few things...first I look at my gauge to figure out about how much gas I think will be needed to fill it up. When I get around that number I came up with, I start pumping slow. You can also kinda hear it when gets to the top of the tank before coming up the neck itself. I also dont stick it all the way in (when pumping gas ), I lift it up a little so I can see into the tank. Just pump slow and you should be good to go. Gas cost too much to waste!!

We don’t have too much of that kind of problem here in CA because of the flexible rubber suction boot on all of our gas pump handles, for emission controls. And when I got my first C10 this stuff used to happen all the time.

That and overfilling the neck, setting at the shop all day in the parking lot - in the hot sun shine, the gas expanding in the tank and spilling out down the side of the truck and on to the parking lot.

Two things I learned:

Have a gas gauge that works so you can guess how many gallons it will take to hit the bottom of the filler neck (as stated previously).

And listening to the gas as it goes into the tank. There’s a noticeable difference in the sound coming out of the neck as the gas starts up toward the cap.

After a while you get the routine down. Just remember not to over-fill, all the way up the neck, thinking you’re going to squeeze some extra miles out of a fill up.

It just comes out when you take a corner too fast.
