Leaf Springs Question

I need to replace the rear leaf springs in my 83 1/2 ton. I have a 3/4 ton parts truck available to me, and I was just wondering if the leafs out of it will fit in the 1/2 ton.

Re: Leaf Springs Question

Thay will, but there are two different length springs, 52 and 56 inch...with two different hanger locations to suit. I also believe the spring eye diameter is different between the two. Use matching/corresponding parts and you will be OK.

You realize that heavy half ton trucks use 3/4 ton leafs right?

Re: Leaf Springs Question

So basically as long as I find a set of leafs that are the same length as the ones I have in now I should be alright? It doesn't matter that there may be a couple of extra leafs in the new bundle?

Re: Leaf Springs Question

I believe you are correct, as long as both sets of leafs are for a 73-87 GM truck. There were several different leaf spring pack thruought the years...ranging from 4 leafs all the way up to 8 I think for 3/4 ton trucks...1 tons I am unsure of.

Re: Leaf Springs Question

Jeff is correct with his analysis ive done the swap twice .. it is a direct bolt up, as long as the springs are the same length

Re: Leaf Springs Question

Good, they will work then. Thanks for the help guys! If I am correct 1 tons had 11 leafs, at least the 79 single rear wheel 1 ton I used to have did.
