identify frame?

I bought a frame about 5 years ago when my 79 got wrecked so I coule swap the cab over and rebuild the truck but I can't remember what year the frame is from. Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference in the frames? Also I think I going to replace my leafs, anybody know a good place to find some? I tried to search for about an hour with no luck. I am hoping to finally get this project started up again after the long delay.

Thanks
Jarrid

Re: identify frame?

somewhere on the frame usually on the front in front of the control arm should be the VIN stamp that should tell you the year of the frame by decoding the year

the difference is the size of the holes on the frame mounts.. the parts of cab and all will interchange but you will need to use the mounts that match the year of the genre of frame (73-80, 81-87)
As to leaf springs i go to a regular spring shop and have them re arc the springs and afdd one or two leafs for usually about $250 . They also include bushings if you need em

Re: identify frame?

Bob's right, look for the VIN on the frame, that'll tell you the year.

Re: identify frame?

LMC has the leaf springs if you want to go the mail order route.

Re: identify frame?

Well I think my leafs got bent when the truck was hit and I am not sure if the old ones will work since the truck is a big 10 model. I just got my LMC catalog yesterday. I will have to check the frame out. thanks guys.

Re: identify frame?

If it is part of the vin # the 7 would mean 1977 and the S would be built in St.Louis.

If it is not part of the vin, then I can't help.

I just reread Bobs post and the easiest way would be to take a cab mount or bush to the parts store and have them compare it.

Re: identify frame?

1973 to 1980, frame horns are round on the end. 1981-1987 frame horns are cut at an angle. This will get ya in a ball park.
